It’s patina time! After putting hundreds of thousands of steps in on my Captain boots over the last couple of years, I thought they were looking so damn good I should post an update on how the leather has aged and how the comfort has changed as the boots have aged. For $199, these boots can’t be beat — and I’m pretty sure I’d say that if they were a hundred bucks more expensive.

You know what? These captains are cheaper than they used to be because $200 back 8yrs ago is probably $250 now due to inflation and their prices have not gone up so technically they are cheaper now than before. I just got a pair of classic black captains that I loved so much I ended up getting the AA as well. I need a good pair of black dress boots and then a pair to be my shit kickers. I can’t wait to get the AA captains.
The yoga pose is pretty corny
Your terracotta have darkened to a good color. What products did you use on it? TBC suggests not to use anything on that leather, but I love how yours look!
don't trust them. tons of commercials and nothing more. stop spamming people!!!!
I have a pair of Wingtips and a pair of Stompers. The wingtips are the most comfortable boot I've ever had honestly. Stompers are amazing also. I've never purchased boots this expensive before. I've always worn work boots like caterpillars, or boots like Docs. So yeah big step up from those lol. But I've never gone into the 400+ range yet.
If you are not living in the States. Think twice if you want to buy boots from Thursday. I’m in Canada and purchased from Thursday. Delivery, not received after two weeks of wait, is terrible and return is costly as you need to cover the international delivery fees. Just my personal experience.
I have had my tobacco President's for 4 years now (October 2018). After many nights getting dragged back from the pub in all conditions the right sole stitching is just starting to split. Nothing a good cobbler can't fix. Can't rate these boots highly enough. Thinking about getting a second pair for Christmas.
My Thursday captains are 2.5 years old and I wear then a minimum 5 days a week to work and also on weekends. They have exceeded my expectations. I've had zero issues. Everything is holding up extremely well. I wear them in the summer heat, rainy fall and snow winter here in the North East. The leather is still in perfect condition and I have never treated or conditioned it. Only thing I had to do was buy a replacement set of laces from Thursday as i ripped one after 2 years of use. I'm shocked how well they still look after the abuse I put them through and how long they've lasted; mind you I'm a 6'1 235lb guy. I usually destroy a casual work style boot after just 6-8 months but these things look like they are just breaking in for me. The bottoms are also still in great shape.
Thursdays last is trash and never fits its not anatomically correct in the slightest and needs a soft remaster
I'd like to find out if they are worth it, but Fed Ex sucks balls.
I've collected so many. And my fave pair is over 4 years old.
I am torm on presidents or the captains kinda like the presidents more but idk guess cadets more popular? I need something good for work and casual wear
what jeans are you wearing in the video with the boots? they also look great.
They need more cork to make them more comfortable, but besides that, the boots quality control is very poor, as they are shipped full of defects, for example, uneven heel heights (some by a lot), dents and missing or chipped parts in the sole's side, uneven stitching of different heights in the back part of the boot, which the company will try to claim are acceptable standard deviations defects in the manufacturing process since they are handmade, which is an outlandish claim for a boot at the $200 price point, which demonstrates an overall negligent and poor customer service strategy to push defective pairs on customers, which is adverse to the company's marketing strategy on first-hand testimonials.
If one is lucky enough to get a pair without defects in the first shipment, they are nice boots but for most customers that is not the case, for this company to ship a pair without defects can be a real challenge full of headaches, especially since it will take three or more exchanges to get a decent pair with little defects, noting that they will not guarantee a pair without defects in writing via email, which shows a poor branding supervision and integrity by the management of the company.
This is basically a company that sells boots and shoes with high end quality materials but with negligent manufacturing methods assembling products full of sporadic defects, which are push to customers as acceptable defects and maybe if it fails with a little rebate, in order to avoid an exchange for a pair with little defects, which makes me think from my experience with customer service, that there is no such thing as a pair with zero defects offered to their customers which does not do justice to the aesthetics of their style and designs offered, which is a real shame. In conclusion, unless this company can guarantee their products with zero defects or money back guaranteed, it is destined to go belly up and replaced with another company that will offer the same aesthetic with high quality materials, but with the zero-defects manufacturing processes.
why they do make toecap flat? also the selection of boots are very similar. boots should have a decent shaft, at least 6 inch. but most of the handmades dont do this. dont know why
Are the Terracotta considered part of the rugged and resilient line? Asking so I know if I should be using leather conditioner or not? Thanks!
Are the Stormking heels/soles taller than the standard sole on the Captain boots? Thanks.
I just bought the Logger Thursday boots and I can't wait to wear them! I have very comfy REDBACK boots, but they aren't very stylish. I have more stylish Ariat boots, but they aren't as comfy as my REDBACKs. These Thursday boots will hopefully be both stylish and comfy for working in. They will be my first higher quality pair of boots. I never thought I would be so excited for boots but here I am!
Update: Been wearing them for a few months now. Took a while to break them in. Had to use moleskin and went through a bit of pain. Now they are super comfy and I can stand in them for hours and hours and my feet feel fine at the end of my work day. My captains had no break in time at all and are also extremely comfortable. My only complaint is that I was expecting NEW boots but clearly my Loggers were previously worn since they had Dr. Scholes inserts inside them which were covered in hair. Not really cool of Thursday Boots Co to sell me used boots when I paid full price for NEW ones.
I have $80 boots I have been wearing basically everyday since 2017. What are you talking about?
I’ve been listening to you talk about these boots for quite a while now but could never quite pull the trigger on them. I’ve got a bunch of Red Wing boots and a pair of Grant Stone boots. I’m here in New York for a couple of days so I went to the store to check them out. I bought a pair for myself and for my wife! Great looking boots and very comfortable! Very happy! My wife was in shock when I told her they cost only $199. She thought they were $600 boots. She was also very happy when I told her I’d buy her a pair. So I got a nice pair of boots and made my wife happy as well! Thanks for the the reviews!
That patina looks amazing on the Terracotta! What do condition them with?
I own same. Thursdays customer support told that this leather does not need any conditioner at all and said only water protection spray would suffice the need.
being honest lets say you wear them 2-3 days a weak how long can you expect they would last?
********** DON'T BUY THURSDAY BOOTS **************** The company is owned by Connor Wilson, a radical right-wing fundamentalist who supports suppression and oppression.
Thanks for the vid! If you buy these in the EU they will cost 300USD including taxes and shipping. Are they still worth it ad this price, or are other European options better at this price such as Meermin, since you don't have to pay import tax?
On what size last are the Captain’s boots made on? I know Red Wing Iron Ranger’s are made on 8.
I have a pair of Thursday captains that I have worn daily for 4 years. They are getting close to being retired. But have held up great, and I only condition them about once a year. and have hicked every major trail in the grand canyon in them. I would be happy to buy them again.
I just bought the cadets off Amazon. They are pretty comfortable right out of the box. I bought true to size and i find they are a teeeny but too roomy around the sides of my feet..but i have a pretty thin foot. I'm really happy though
Appreciate the BPJ you're rocking along with the boots.
Your Arizona Adobe looks like the Tobacco variation
I just ordered my first pair and I’m excited even more after this review.
Considering buying them to my nation I just have to multiply price by 1.4x and got my price well then very nice boots for 280usd + some potentional additional fees
I caution those who want the traditional service boot look. When I ordered these and saw them in person, they are not what I expected. The toe is surprisingly pointy, and the heel is surprisingly high. The pictures and videos don't capture the look. Having said that, the boot is indeed very well made for the price. So if this is the look you want, go for it.
I have had mine for 5 years. Still solid
