  1. There are a LOT of weird/creepy/strange things in this show. I personally loved the entire series, but I would say season 1 was not as good as the rest, I think they were figuring it out still. That said, season 1 was quite good, so just imagine how good the rest of it is going to be….

  2. 1×05 is largely deplored in the fandom, yes. I still have a decent soft spot for it personally, though. 1×06 is pretty well appreciated, at least for a season 1 episode. It is a very important episode for Willow, for sure.

  3. The two best vampire movies are both called "Nosferatu". The first is by German director F.W. Murnau, made in 1922. It is still one of the creepiest yet visually most beautiful horror films ever made. Then, in 1979, German director Werner Herzog remade the 1922 original, but he had the good fortune, and the bad, to know and work with genius actor Klaus Kinski. There is a great documentary about their years-long, five film partnership, called "My Best Fiend". Kinski was insane and possibly evil, but oh, did it make him a powerful performer. Watch both versions of "Nosferatu".
Then there was a comedy starring John Malkovici as 1922's director F.W. Murnau, and Willem Dafoe as the actor who played the vampire. The twist is that he was a real vampire and that Murnau had made a secret deal with him: he can 'eat' the movie's technical workers and minor supporting actors, as long as he leaves alone and alive the beautiful female lead. Dafoe is brilliantly funny as the demon turned actor. This flick is called "Shadow of the Vampire", from the year 2000.
One other terrific and creepy "Dracula" was seen in the 1977 PBS / BBC-made mini-series, "Count Dracula" with French romantic leading man, Louis Jourdan, as the vampire. The now outdated video-special effects were fresh and new and scary, at the time. This atmospheric production is excellent.
Overall, the best and most original is the 1979 "Nosferatu", starring Kinski. Very disturbing and well-made.

  4. hey quick question, is this the HD collection? cause the HD collection is pretty bad. Messes up lighting, aspect ratio. you can see people filming the show at one point. might want to find an alt. soonish

  5. Interesting fun fact, the Bronze nightclub featured a lot of up and coming indie artists of the time, rather than the big pop acts, which was common for smaller venues. It did lead to a lot more exposure to these "off-brand" acts, sometimes leading to breakout success!

  6. Stop worrying about werewolves. You might have to wait a long time. And you’re allowed to not be fully invested in this show. It gets better. I didn’t much like it until season four when they got a bad guy that seemed unbeatable that I really liked.
And, before you get too deep into the TV series, I’d encourage you to watch the BtVS movie with Kristy Swanson and Donald Sutherland. Joss didn’t like how it was done but it sort of ties into the TV series to explain what might’ve happened at Buffy’s last school and why she was shipped off to Sunnydale. Paul “PeeWee” Reubens is in it too in I think his first non-PeeWee role. He does a good job.

  7. DOn't worry too much about these two. The most of this season isn't the best of the show. Not bad, mind you, just not the best. Seasons 2 and 5 seem to be the most highly praised but this season's finally is considered one of the best epesodes in the whole show.

  8. Whedon commented once that the first season of a show is tricky. You don't know if you'll get renewed, or even if you can finish the season, so you limit things, and stay more traditionally episodic, at least with the main plot of each episode. Among other things, that means people coming in late can still find something to like and worth coming back for.

Budget and time is also tighter. Some of how that affects a show is obvious, some is more subtle. (Season 1 was shot in 16mm to save money. Starting with season 2 they went to 35mm and even translated to TV the later episodes look better.)

  9. To answer your question, the answer is no. Not in the first season. We got some eps coming up that are dark and disturbing and not funny at all, and hard to get through. Welcome to Buffy.
