Are The Wave 5 Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course DLC Tracks Good? | Level By Level

Mario Kart 8 deluxe, after 5 years of being the Nintendo switch’s best selling game, is finally getting DLC in the form of the booster course pass. This is going to be bringing 48 retro tracks to mario kart deluxe from super mario kart, mario kart 64, mario kart super circuit, mario kart double dash, mario kart DS, mario kart wii, mario kart 7, and mario kart tour! Wave 5 of the dlc dropped a few days ago containing two cups, the Feather cup and Cherry cup. That brought over a total of 8 tracks, Athens Dash, Daisy Cruiser, Moonview Highway, Squeaky Clean Sprint, Los Angeles Laps, Sunset Wilds, Koopa Cape, and Vancouver Velocity. In today’s episode of level by level we’re going to take a look at all 8 of these tracks to see if they’re good or bad retro tracks and put them in a tier list! Oh and there are 3 new characters, Petey Piranha, Wiggler, and Kamek!

  1. My only gripes with Koopa Cape now I've played it a few more times are the turning things that acted like lightning never returning and the beginning of the lap feels too caged in but other than that it's still a solid remake. Sunset Wilds got the Sky Garden treatment but let's hope for Wave 6 it gets the Coconut Mall treatment

  2. It’s at least nice to see Vancouver Velocity use it’s Olympic history and Rogers Place in its track design. Though I wished that Nintendo had a Mario spun Vancouver Canucks logo in the track or played on the cities Asian heritage. We need more city life dammit!

  3. Just wanna say smth as a Tour player rq:

Vancouver Velocity was the 5th city to be added to Tour and considering London, Paris, Tokyo and New York were the previous 4 cities, it would make sense why vancouver would be the fan favourite. At the time, there was also only the forest variant. Anyways, after that, more cities with more complexcity came out along with vancouver 2 and 3 being worse than expected however vancouver is only known for its first variant. Thanks to that, vancouver was hyped for no real reason. Also, they chose one of the worst possible routes for the track with the second lap actually being Vancouver 2 in reverse. Idk, just thought I should point out that the anti grav had nothing to do with the hype

  4. Vancouver is one of the most beautiful tracks in the game in my opinion. I pmay it for its aesthetics and music rather than its layout

    A few things to add:
    – Apparently, mario kart 8 deluxe can't support dynamic light on the terrain (and maybe changing skyboxes, but I'm not sure), so they couldn't implement the sunset in the track 🙁
Now, why did they still add it ? I don't know :

Moonview Highway on the wii had faster cars with bigh menacing headlights and the ability to switch land on the large part of the track. There were also more of them. Now, some of the "nerfs" mk8dx brought to it are a bit sad in my opinion, while others were probably needed to not make it too chaotic. I don't know what other people think of it

  5. Every channel talking about Mario Kart can't talk about the biggest problem… Man instead of reviewing all the time how bout think of smart things to say, that goes for all YouTubers…
THERE SHOULDNT BE 3 MAPS ONLY SHOWING UP ONLINE.
I'm so tired of the same old maps showing up. We have sooooo many tracks now, and its only 3 to choose from, and most the time it's old maps

  6. You missed two paths in squeaky clean sprint. When you can go above the sink you can also go on the faucet and in between those paths is also a booster pad thing

  8. Here are my random opinions on the tracks:
•Athens Dash feels a bit annoying with a few turns and some collisions detected. 8/10
•Daisy Cruiser was actually the most difficult track for me in this wave, mostly due to it being a bit linear (and the one retro track I’ve never played). Not a complaint, though. It’s really fun! 9/10
•Moonview Highway was one of my least favourite Wii tracks. Here in 8, it’s actually one of my favourite retro tracks. The music and controls really make this track extremely enjoyable for me. 9.5/10
•Squeaky Clean Sprint for me is the feather cup’s weakest link, but it’s still good. The opening and end are nice, but the narrow path inside the drain is frustrating to navigate sometimes. 7/10
•LA laps is pretty good IMO. Theming is kinda bland, but the few half-pipes and turns are pretty entertaining. 6.5/10
•Sunset Wilds. It’s… fine? It’s okay to race on, but it feels very bland, especially at the end of each lap, not just the last and it’s lack of a sunset. 5.5/10
•Koopa Cape, visually, hurts me. It actually makes it slightly harder to race through, but it still a fantastic track. I can’t explain why, but the half-pipe in the pipe is really fun to take, even on 150cc. 7.5/10
•Vancouver Velocity… ouch. They did this one dirty. Lap 1? Actually phenomenal. (Vancouver Velocity 1 was my first Tour track ever, so I’m a bit biased) Lap 2? Still pretty good! Lap 3? I genuinely find it boring. I wish that we started it with lap 1 in reverse before going back into the arena. 7.5/10.
