Arcadey Shmup Roguelike | Seraph's Last Stand Teak a Look

I dug through almost 80 games and played through a half dozen demos as part of a recent “DIY Demothon.” One of the games I played was Seraph’s Last Stand. (I was going to demo the free version on itch, but the paid game is literally $0.99.) Tag along for my first impressions of this arcadey shmup roguelike: defeat enemy waves, upgrade your kit, and then dodge-and-shoot all over again.

● Buy Seraph’s Last Stand on Steam for $0.99: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1919460/Seraphs_Last_Stand/
● You can also try a free version on itch: https://oddgiant.itch.io/laststand

The dev has also posted the OST on Steam for $4.99 for those who would like to further support.

From the dev: “Create insane builds and break the game in all possible ways to get your name into the leaderboards! Every round you get stronger, but so does the enemies…”

  1. Yeah, this one is fun, I saw it on the stream and I thiiink commented about this on a different video – though since then I've played it myself and found that Friction is actually really good. It's like the thunderbolts except you control where they launch.

  3. That looked fun! Thank you for sharing (:

And this is a good opportunity to ask the question: How does one find the timing to stop taking luck?

If I have a limited amount of picks, which is usually the case, then there comes a time where the luck picks actually decrease overall power by stealing "slots" that I could have filled with something better.
But I am unclear on how to guesstimate the break-even point and how to jump off at the peak.

    Anyone got ideas?

  4. Taking a page out of the Touhou playbook and using basic streaming tactics would be good here, since the projectiles are mainly aimed right at you. Basically: avoid hitting a wall at all costs, move very slowly to just barely avoid all projectiles, and if you need to turn the stream (or "cutback"), move quickly forward to create a free space behind you, then turn around back into the safe spot you just created.
Edit: Also, of course, try to start at one side and work your way to the other instead of starting in the middle.
