  1. As you said in your one hit wonder video Thin Lizzy was listed in there because the US only got one of their songs. Survivor are the same to from the UK point of view. Stallone ask them to write a song for his film as they were his favorite band at the time. Originally Stallone wanted to use Queens anotherone bites the dust for the film but could not get the rights to use it

  2. Hi John, I discovered Survivor quite a few years ago, I can’t remember them touring in the UK but I believe they had a huge following in Japan, unfortunately the vocalist, Jimmy Jamison died in 2014..

  3. Another nice video John. I have another solo suggestion and a viewers question (bogof?). First the solo suggestion. How about something from the oft' forgotten J J Cale? You could perhaps choose one with slide to introduce us to some slide basics as well. Now, the viewers question. I'm getting better at transcribing (slowly) but how do you approach a song in alternate tunings? As in, is there a trick to knowing if a song isn't in Standard E tuning and how do you find out what the tuning is?

  4. This video prompted me to check their discography on wikipedia, and it looks like they had a no. 5 hit in 1985 in the UK with "Burning Heat" (yeh, I don't remember it ether).
In keeping with the general theme of this excellent video, I have a funny story to share. I was on a 2 week driving trip up and down the Malay peninsular in 1990, and I picked up a pirated tape chock block full of great hard rock classics from the 70s and 80s. Every song a gem. Listened to it exclusively the whole trip. In between each song they (whoever had pirated it) had filled the space with cheering and applause, as if it was some sort of massive stadium concert. As we got to the end of the tape, the cheering got louder and more frenzied, until we hit the climax with the final song…which was…Eye of the bloody Tiger! Geez, bit of anti-climax in my book! 😀
