'Anti-climax': Defence Strategic Review shows Australia's ‘desperate’ situation

Australia’s Defence Strategic Review declares the situation has “never been more desperate” but the inquiry has left a sense of “anti-climax”, says The Australian’s Foreign Editor Greg Sheridan.

“There’s also a sense of anti-climax, did we really have to have this long inquiry in order to announce another enquiry about our service fleet,” Mr Sheridan told Sky News Australia.

“On the one hand, this strategic assessment is that the situation’s never been more desperate, on the other hand not much is happening and it’s not happening fast.”

  1. Maybe not a good idea to follow Ze Americans into war with China ,fast jets don't outrun fast missiles like crappy old outdated over priced submarines can't out run torpedoes ,half a $trillion dollors on equipment that you will never use, military industrial complex thanks you .

  3. Image that this is a staged plan, it's been of many decades of planing. This from the beginning of the New World Order presents itself, stared to put the reality into play. The Bill Gates foundation has this all planed, and along with the, WEF Klaus Schwaby the founder, and wealthy cronies mates, in the UN with Billy Gates, Globalists members investors shareholders and stakeholders, all pushing the New World Order presents itself, they don't give a rat's.

  4. What is clear is that no one would risk attacking us if we were nuclear-armed. Better to prevent war than to try to prosecute one inflicted upon us. The way to maintain peace between nations is by the possession of nuclear weapons because these weapons rule out the possibility of war altogether.

  5. Greg is right about Defence’s long standing ability to thwart government efforts to shake defence up. And he’s right that this is just another review big on talk, but short on commitment and delivery.
But he’s wrong about armour. If armour is so irrelevant, why does Ukraine want it so much? And does one America’s most senior generals say tanks are essential to win wars? (Clue – because America pays a LOT more attention to military affairs and realities than Greg does! That’s why the American, Russian and Ukrainian armies are committed to armoured vehicles).

  6. In the USA historically 87% of ALL military deaths have been white men with 11% Black men. We fight wars for our way of life and to protect our women and children at home. Modern society has removed those incentives for the modern American male soldier. Modern men are apparently not interested in fighting for just anything. Send the Dylan Mulvaney's, drag Queers and the like to war. Let us know how you do….

  7. If you spent every dollar you had you couldn't counter a Chinese offensive. Is it obligatory to scaremonger? Just say you think more should be spent on defense. Flaming rigermerole about that simple point.
Your boss looks like a pickled walnut btw 😜

  8. Typically Australian. Have a meeting to discuss the possibility of a meeting then arrange a meeting to arrange the meeting..
    Obviously, this isn't Canada.
