I watched a video today, that gave detail on how the feud started between Drake/Kendrick. Their theory is it started when Kendrick was on tour with Drake in 2011. They think Kendrick found out that Drake has ghostwriters. When he made GKMC, the track they did 'Poetic Justice' is Kendrick explaining how he fell in love with Hip Hop in the metaphor of a woman (like Common). With Drake being the feature they believe Kendrick wrote Drake's verse to indirectly diss himself with the lines "I could never write my wrongs, unless I write them down for real". They also tie in the music video, but I found it compelling going through the lyrics again.
