My name is David and with my dog Lefty we live full time in our ambulance conversion RV. I made this change to my life and you can too! Like, subscribe and comment – Lefty would appreciate it – he wants the adventures to keep coming!

The Campulance is a 2002 Ford E450 Marque Commando 164 Class III ambulance powered by the Ford 7.3l Powerstroke turbo diesel engine and a 4 speed 4R100 transmission. Lefty is a 65lb Staffordshire Terrier (best I can tell) that came from the Verona Street Animal Shelter in March 2014 at the age of 9 months. We have been living full time in the campulance since July 2019.

  1. I know you said don't have a sawzall but I use one every time to get those shocks out. You cut right through the rubber bushing on top. If You can't get at the top the shock the way you did, the other way is to take the passenger side wheels off. That way you can reach right in there with a wrench or the sawzall.
I hope those Monroe shocks last. And let us know about the ride quality. I put Monroe shocks in the front of mine and they only lasted not even 2,000 miles. Luckily they have a lifetime warranty.

  2. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT TOP NUT. i had to use a sawsall and cut mine off. i fooled around for a day and a half trying to get it off with every kinda tool i had i even got a impact hammer did not do it. then i got the sawsall out and it was off in a minute. then the other 3 were fast

  3. You can get rebuild kits for those turbos. They're pretty easy and a lot cheaper than a new one. But like I said before you can get a wicked wheel for it and then maybe add in a diamond eye exhaust. They are meant specifically for the econolines with the 7.3
The diamond eyes sounds nice and is not obnoxious and you can really hear the turbo whistle

  5. Nice shock replacement Dave, I did a little research and Amazon sells a spring shock compressor for about $30.00. It looks like it grabs onto the top of the shock and a 2 bolt plate at the bottom allows you to ratchet up the shock and compress it to mount the bolt and nut. It looks like it would work on your new Monroes. Sometimes though you still can't beat the old school method with a jack. Sorry for the road rash on your knee, at least now you can say you GOT SKIN in the game. I'm always impressed that you tackle jobs that are not for the meek, but knowing your rig gives you the best peace of mind and when you do it you know it's done right. As always both you and Lefty stay safe and hope to see you on the road soon.

  7. Saint Louise, Mo. 1977-ish –
We had 2 inch ice balls. Hundreds of those small ice balls all froze together.
We had windshields smashed and trees torn apart. You name it we had it busted by those ice balls.
That hail is a pretty harmless event, but it can still break glass under special conditions.

  8. In NE Ohio we get hail, which is the harder icy nuggets. The slightly looser version you mention seeing that more resembles compacted snow could be graupel, which we also get here in NE Ohio πŸ™‚

  9. More good rig work getting done and glad you obeyed the boss dog! Glad to see him having a nice fun walk in the creek. He loves the water and then there's the diggin in the old tree stump for his favorite creature smells. He sure has a fun life! Yay on the good test drive!
