Another 6" line bites the dust. Jurassic World Toys go 3 3/4" as the Amber Collection rests.

Scott Toy Guru Neitlich from Spector Creative, an admitted “casual” fan of the Amber collection was still surprised to see it is over. Why Jurassic Park toys are going back to 3 3/4 and is this for good? What does this mean for other 6″ toy lines.

  1. I have all the JP Amber figures except for the Dilophasaurus which I was hoping they’d reissue around now with the new movie coming out because I refuse to pay the $200 eBay price. So bummed the line is cancelled. My collection feels incomplete and I may just sell them off now. I felt the super colossal t.Rex scaled pretty well with these too.

  2. Sir. Really. It's been too many episodes since we've gotten a "sexy, sexy Dr. Malcolm" mention. So many missed opportunities right here.
Buuuuuuut then again you were talking about the bases looking like…
    Carry on.

  3. I kind of saw this coming. About 4-5 years ago, I began to realize that we were entering a golden age of adult action figure collecting. So many franchises were releasing so many great figures. We had modern figures, vintage figures, live action figures, animated figures, 6 inch figures, 3 3/4" figures. It was incredible.

I knew it wouldn't last forever, though. Fans were demanding higher quality figures, and in turn, manufacturers would increase prices. I knew eventually price would outstrip demand, and the market would crash, so I began collecting every figure, that I could, from every line I enjoy. I was buying Transformers, Marvel, DC, MOTU Thundercats, GI Joe, TMNT, Aliens, Predator, Star Wars, etc. It was crazy! I had never witnessed a time when there were so many great figures available, at the same time.

So, it doesn’t sutprise me, that this era is ending, but I am a little shocked at how suddenly it's coming to an end. I didn't anticipate things like rapid inflation, supply chain issues, and manufacturers doing away with plastic packaging. But I'm glad that I got what I could, before the market completely fizzled, and we revert back to companies only making cheap toys, for kids, again.

  4. almost my entire collection is 6" or 7" so I was cherry picking amber collection. It was a pricey line I want Hammond, Satler and Grant still, but I agree the scale is not an easy one for jurassic park. Im sure the smaller scale will be better, I just don't really collect that scale…

  5. It would be very interesting to see 2" become a standard scale. I could see it happening to keep costs down.

I can't lie….2" MOTU done in the same style ( crouched pose ) as Vintage/Origins could be pretty awesome.

Secret Wars '84 style Marvel figures could also be pretty cool in that scale. Super Powers style would work, too.

  6. Not missing 6" at all. I just can't afford them and it's not what I grew up with. I support 3 3/4" all the way. I do think it's a bummer for other collectors who enjoy the 6" figures. But, in this economy where prices are rising on a daily basis and it's difficult to just put gas in your car… toys have to adjust for the times.

  7. I really was hoping that the Amber Collection would continue with the new movie. While I love the figures from the original movies, I was looking forward to modern figures of Ellie, Alan, and Dr. Malcolm… unlike Ghostbusters, where I didn't want older versions of the original team.

  8. We'll see how it turns out. I think the lack of window packaging will be fine.
The kids toys can still have an open packaging sans plastic.
And we can still be a bit greener.

  9. I currently have no interest in 6” figures. Once, the larger scale may have been necessary for more intricate details, but modern tech allows for the same level of detail in 4” figures. A super articulated, highly detailed action figure that is 3 3/4” to 4” tall is the best option to have both detail and large vehicles, creatures and playsets. 1:18 is the perfect scale IMO. It is the best of both worlds. Plus, there are more than enough IPs that have been made in the scale to play crossover mayhem, this is not something limited to the 1/12 scale. I am very happy to have the Hammond collection in the 1/18ish scale, and happy also to see the 1/12 Amber collection go (no offense intended to those that liked it).

  10. I thought Amber Collection looked really cool, but never got into it. Since the beginning I thought there were only a very limited number of dinosaur species that could be done in that scale while keeping the price tag. Fun Fact: All stores near home had heaps of Nedry unsold figures. Those things were at clearence for so long…

  11. Nifty video! Thank you! Well, I hope they actually get to release that 5-foot-plus Jurassic World Dreadnoughtus. Might make the basis for a decent Powers of Grayskull Gigantisaur custom . . . .
