Andor is without doubt the best Star Wars show that Disney have managed to produce. Yeah, that’s not exactly a high benchmark, but its something. So it’s kind of a shame nobody’s bothered to watch it, probably because we’ve had to endure such absolute garbage to get here.

So Drinker, I see you like to criticize films and to be honest I agree with a lot of what you say, now you say your a novelist, and you talk about bad movie and shows. Well I'd like to ask you a few questions then, first what make a good story, second what do you avoid in writing a story, and finally how would you go about writing one long story for a single book or film as apposed to writing multiple stories for a book/comic book or TV series? Is that any difference at all?
Every 3 episode block was a different director, my god they did great
If only they had made a good marketing for it… It's really good.
Thanks Tony Gilroy, his team, all the actors and Nicholas Britell.
Showing what happen when you give the money to people with great skills, and a will to tell a compelling story.
I agree with almost everything you said dude! All except the Cassian as a character part! I mean what did you expect from him? *Hes just a tourist!* 🤣
Grity, obscure, industrial? Feels like Scotland, so Drinker sympathy for the show is quite understandable 😂.
Not even going to bother as long as Disney runs these shows f em all
So Disney just confirmed with Andor that they can make good content if they want to, they made Andor like this because they cant sell toys of him because he isn't so popular in the StarWars universe.
It's all about profit, remember George Lucas made more Money by selling StarWars Toys and merch after the success of the first 3 movies.
I may actually go back and watch this one based on your recommendation, Drinker. I have honestly stopped watching anything Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars… They have killed most of my goodwill towards many of these IPs.
And Amazon did it with Wheel of Time and LOTR.
Andor was an average and overhyped slog fest who's title character is the least popular character in the show. Mando is better.
andor is the best star wars has ever been.
yes that means george lucas star wars, yes it means the animated shows, yes it means the games.
i said it. everyone thinks it. 🙂
The most irrelevant show at any actual time.
Still can't support the pedos running Disney
So are you just trying to find things to bitch about? It's perfectly OK to like the show dude.
I stopped this video half way through. That's the length of my interest in Star Wars nowadays. Thanks Disney.
Sorry "Rouge One" not memorable? It's like the second best Star Wars film.
When I first saw the trailers for Andor, as good as they were, I immediately assumed it was going to be the same Star Wars garbage Disney has spewed out recently. Only after hearing that this a good show and reading (and watching) reviews, did I even consider giving it my time.
Well said CD! 👏🏻 totally agree. It WAS great! Several levels above and beyond anything else, in and out of Star Wars! 😉 O.O.K 👌🏼💙
Even while talking about a show like Andor you are able to squeeze in your political agenda, you are obsessed man.
It’s not ironic that Rogue One was my FAVORITE SW movie of all time then. Sorry hardcore fans of episode IV and V and VI
still not watching this
Actually better than obiwan and boba felt put together
One fact that I really like but simply isnt brought up much is that there arent any stormtroopers in this show
And like it's amazing, imperial army should be what these shows focus on, the imperial army is the primary force of the empire after all, stormtroopers are shock troops, not standard infantry
I think the fact the were willing to show the imperial army at the forefront just goes to show the sheer level of actual care the showrunners have for the setting
I don't think I'll watch anyomore Star Wars. Disney killed it. I could barely bring myself to watch this video and I love The Critical Drinker. I did enjoy The Mandalorian and Rogue One. The rest of it is complete crap.
People didnt watch it because the lead is a Mexican and they saw diverse cast
your take on Diego Luna was just wrong imo, the dude was immense and deserves an award for his performance
I can see how much the Drinker likes a movie/show by how late in the review he mentions "THE MESSAGE" XD
Fuck I really wish I could find the energy to watch this but I’m just tired of Star Wars and mcu shite right now. I liked rogue one and I liked cassian in that movie but I think just knowing that he dies in rogue one also makes me not really care about the show.
Was hoping this would be a sleeper hit. A spy movie in a Star Wars setting is a no brainer win. Unless your Disney… but they pulled it off. Hopefully peeps take the time to watch it.
Now that I have watched the entire first season of "Andor", I might as well state how I feel about the series.
I believe "Andor" is a pretty good show. I really enjoyed the performances in this series, along with the corrupt and violent portrayal of the Empire (which was nothing new), the series’ ambiguous portrayal of the Rebel Alliance and certain sequences. I was especially impressed by those scenes that featured Cassian Andor’s escape from Ferrix, the Rebels’ heist at the Imperial garrison at Aldhani, Cassian’s rescue of Bix and the riot on Ferrix in the finale, his stint at the Narkina 5 prison and especially his escape. Those sequences made the series for me.
However, I had some issues. I don't see the point of having Mon Mothma as a major character – almost the co-lead – in this production. Her arc had no real connection in this season. In fact, showrunner Tony Gilroy could have placed most of her arc in Season 2. That is . . . if Cassian will play a major role in her escape from the Empire. But "Star Wars Rebels" had made it clear that Bail Organa, the Rebel Alliance's Y-squadron and the Lothar rebel cell helped her escape. Which leads me to wonder how Gilroy plans to shove Cassian into this situation. Or . . . will Cassian and Mothma connect in another way? Who knows. I could have accepted Mothma as a major character in this series if she had some kind of connection to Cassian's character arc in this season. But she didn't. And using the excuse that this series is supposed to be about the early period of the Rebel Alliance didn't work for me. The name of this series is “ANDOR”; not “The Rebel Alliance”, “Rebels II”, “Andor and Mothma” or anything like that.
The Syril Karn character didn't seem to have much to do between the third episode, (1.03) “Reckoning”, and the season finale, (1.12) “Rix Road”; except brood and develop a fixation for ISB agent Dedra Meero. Aside from revealing his origin, how did the flashbacks showing Cassian's childhood relate to the season or the series' main narrative?
I also had a problem with the series' pacing and believe it could have been whittled down to at least eight or nine episodes. One of my main problems with “Andor” is that the writing in several of the episodes felt like padding. As I have stated before, the first two episodes could have merged into one. And the fourth and fifth episodes could have merged into one. I also believe that the seventh episode could have merged into the eighth one. Reducing Mon Mothma's screentime would have really helped. As I have stated earlier, she had no major connection to Cassian's arc to warrant such a large role in this series. I found the abrupt endings for some of the episodes problematic as well, especially some of the early episodes. Butdespite my issues with the series, I still managed to enjoy "Andor" and look forward to its second season. Perhaps it might feature better writing.
We need more shows like this. I fear we won’t see the likes of another show like this for years to come
What do you mean Mandalorian is barely tolerable? It's a great show.
Reminds me of a saying that came up over the years.
The best star wars stories do not have Jedi in them.
Boring.. you are soooo wrong
Episode 1 to 5 (The Message) episode 6 onwards Star Wars pilled.
The roles of Mon Mothma and Vel have nothing to do with them being women. If it were a dude in those roles it really wouldn't have mattered much to the story. Also Mon Mothma is a central figure to the rebellion of the OT so it would make sense to use her to show how the rebellion was funded from within the senate. The yucky icky girl cooties criticism is so weird in an otherwise well put together review. You guys have been so hurt by Kathleen Kennedy that you're jumping at shadows.
Loved it!
Andor has now shot first three times. Already better than Han Solo
Disney found the one character they couldn't ruin.
And it's one that didn't even exist before they bought the franchise.
Oh ffs, another otherwise good review where you spend 2 fucking minutes ranting about how not woke the characters are. Yes, we fucking get it, just limit it to 2 lines and spend the rest of the time elaborating on why or how the characters are good. This is why I dont watch your Marvel reviews anymore.
Disney seems to do better with its own Star Wars characters (Andor, Mando) than they ones they bought from George (Kenobi, Boba Fett).
I gotta think that The Drinker is so starved for non-woke entertainment that a show that is finally mostly free of it has caught his attention, despite having some problems that we used to complain about in the "old days". Problems like, for the first two episodes I could watch (1.75 episodes actually) the main character was incredibly boring and gave me no reason to care about him or his sister. He came off more like "that guy" always mooching off people for help rather than any insight as to why he was looking for his sister in that place. What was his cause? Then we get scenes of seemingly feral children so mysterious that the language translation provided Andor's people in a galaxy far, far away doesn't work for them. Something seems to be horrible about their existence, but who knows? Why should I care? Then the imperials are so humanized that it left me to wonder if existence under them isn't actually all that bad. Who are the bad guys? What is the evil to be overcome? The injustice? The fascism? The abuses? Wait, the guy has to overcome a security inspector zealous to do the right thing? Sorry, 2 episodes in, and I have to watch the Drinker to get excited about it. I tried, but… Poor drinker 🙂 Some day maybe things will get back to "normal".
Sad it took this long for someone to "awaken" in the wokee community to realise cancel kulture and erasing what existed only cancels out their profit margin! Wars and Trek are dead to me. Mary sue childrens shows they are now. Sad adult and intelligence is gone in America!😣
I'd actually disagree with the point about Andor getting blown around by the plot (spoilers ahead). He is very weary about getting in with the rebellion. He states that when he is with Axis (paraphrasing): "Isn't it better to be able to eat and do what you want?" He's just in this for the money and has no interest in throwing away his life for the rebellion, but he doesn't like the Empire and he is slowly radicallised as he sees them do more and more horrible shit.
The entire idea of the prison made my skin crawl and I was really thinking "how tf is he gonna get out of this one". This is when he finally realises that he can never just live a quiet life under the oppression of the empire because they're such a corrupt system. When the floor manager finally realises that he's not getting out it's incredible, it's literally seeing the cornered animal in him. He loses all hope and realises there's only one way out.
I loved this show…as a huge star Wars fan I was so happy that it came our and it was so good.
Check your privilege Drinker. It was BORING. Even the prison escape was a snoozer. I checked out midway through the final episode because it was THAT BORING AND CONTRIVED.
I think Andor is the best thing Disney has done with star wars by far
I really tried but I twice fell asleep during episode 2 of the show. And I wasn't even tired the second time. Tells me something
