…and I broke two endmills CNC milling a bracket- Schaublin Ep. 48

Merry Christmas!
Finally got my servo drives tuned. Also used Freecad Path to generate the toolpath to machine a bracket, which I kind of screwed up.

  1. Much though I hate to see a lovely mechanism like that switch go to waste, that enclosure is going to make for the coolest pedal. I'd be interested to see how that comes out, and maybe what other DIY pedals you've made. Reminds me to get on with the Mastotron fuzz I've had lying around for a few eons! Happy Christmas!

  2. strangely enough, that was my exact reaction "oh cool, TOT's back. yay. Merry Christmas Tony"
Happy Christmas to you too Mark. did you make the classic kiwi pavlova ?

  3. Sheet steel is usually pretty horrible to machine. It seems to smear rather than cut and as you found out it tends to break cutters.
For the motor tuning I'd recommend torque mode rather than velocity mode. I've run LCNC on a number of servo machines and I've always had better results with torque mode.

  4. Thanks for all your vids this year, you’ve finally got me getting over my fear of ruining things and slowly starting to learn cad for all the various camera related things I want to make. Maybe a bit weird I got into your stuff via the instant cameras but nice to see all the cnc stuff even if it is way above my head at times.
Just wish the makerspace lathe wasn’t so clapped out, very jealous of your basement.
Cheers and have a good end to the year!

  5. With stick welding as cake frosting. Lovely!
Have you ever reflected back on your aircraft maintenance daze and wonder how many parts in those planes had their birthing pangs along the lines of that bracket? The thought makes me never want to board another plane.
    Wonderful video as always.
PS Words of wisdom from a friend. "If you have to install a spy camera at the bottom of the control panel directly in front of a female pilot, do it on an Airbus, not a Boeing."
