From what I can gather it seems as though the Houthi's are targetting shipping in protest to Israel's response in Gaza. Now, of course we can see this from our western perspective but we could also see this as a relatively weak group (Houthi's) who feel they have no other way to protest in an attempt to stop the war in Gaza. One thing is for sure, the Houthi's haven't just decided to attack shipping to cause unneccessary suffering just because the don't like the west.
