Analysis: A New Stargate Show Might NOT Be A Prime Video Exclusive

NOW THAT AMAZON owns MGM (and with it the Stargate franchise), where is that NEW STARGATE series that fans have been loudly rallying for since Stargate Universe left the airwaves back in 2011?

We’ve been operating under the assumption that Amazon will want to put the Stargate franchise — a high-profile brand with a built-in fan base — on its flagship video streaming service, Prime Video. But there’s a good reason to think that, if and when it finally does come along, the next Stargate production might end up streaming in an unexpected place.

In this video we’re doing a bit of industry analysis and armchair speculation about Stargate’s future with Amazon — especially the company’s OTHER streaming platform, Amazon Freevee.

  1. No matter how the show airs there will always be an… "alternate" way of viewing it, so where it shows up is of no consequence. The only really important thing is that it goes somewhere with the money to produce it at the level it requires to be a show people want to watch.

A "free' platform is probably not to way to go for an expensive show like this. People go out of their way to avoid watching commercials, more now than they ever have so It's my opinion that it's a dying tool for money generation and there needs to be better ways. The unfortunate flip side to that is the proliferation of paid streaming channels which are basically just like the dozens of individual pay cable channels that used to exist, commercial free, and just like today there were too many for people to pay for causing the profits to drop off for all of them before basic cable deals tied everything into much neater packages.

  2. Put THREE times the ads for new Stargate shows my family, friends and everyone would still watch. I'd love them to pick up Stargate universe and come out of sleep and continue!

  4. no, I will not nor have watched shows on plutotv, freevee, hulu with inserted ads that feel very unnatural and take me out of the story. NOTE ads before or after the episode/film are okay as I am not taken out of the story then.

  5. I just binged SGU on freeve an it was slow but it got really good by the second season.. I would like to know what happened to the Crew…an the ads didn't bother me…I wouldnt be surprised if by 2024 there is a new SG since it would be the thirty year anniversary of the original Stargate movie 1994 ( Which is the year I was born)…
