An Uninspiring Start to the Packers Offseason

On today’s show, Andy takes a look at the start of the offseason for the Packers, and while there’s a lot of time left, it hasn’t been the most inspiring start to the 2023 calendar year. Find out why.

  1. I think keeping Bary would be fair if there wasnt a clear choice to upgrade to. The packers live the fangio defense and fangio was availible and they didnt even try to get him. There were at least 3 coaches who would 100% be an upgrade and thats a bad choice

  2. I really think you need to look at the Packers coaching and management. There's no way they should have given Rogers that contract. I'm sorry that's on. Brian, I also think this is not a well coach team. Didn't look like it last year. Draft and developed well. You have to teach players Coach players not scheme players. This organization doesn't appear to teach and coach players the way they need to be

  3. I will continue to say it. Gutekunst duh his own grave with subpar drafting, tried to use a whole ass draft to build for the future after an nfc championship loss. Ignored WR as long as he could, lowballed THE only good WR we had for almost two years. Im not saying he should have reasonably given davante a that contract, but by ignoring WR for 2 years (basically 3 if you count taking 3 5th round+ WR’s in 2018) he held no leverage with davante. Once Rodgers outperforms what his weapons are in 2020 and 2021, gutekunst has no other option than to pay the guy who is pissed at him for his decisions over the last 4 years.

TLDR: Rodgers is very petty, but
Gutekunst is retarded for choosing to plan for the future instead of winning now with a HOF QB.
    Gutekunst 70% blame
    Rodgers 30%

  4. That first Gute quote should scare people. If you're replacing a future HOF QB, you should probably make sure the replacement is "the guy" not "see what replacement has in him". Especially if your current QB is still playing at a high level. Pretty clear cut incompetence if that's exactly what Gute feels.

  5. I think it's everyone waiting on the Rodgers nonsense to be decided. no one really wants to get involved if it's going to be more of the same-old same-old. uncoachable 12. powerless MLF to change anything. there's zero to look forward to right now… to get excited about. the Packers just need to come out and say what's happening…that they're moving on and 12 can accept whatever trade they can get or retire.

  6. If I could only listen to one Packer podcast, then it would be this one.

I think Andy made a good point (amongst many others) of basically saying that getting more heads together, especially from different perspectives, would probably end up being a good thing.

A lot of leaders don't want to relinquish any of their control, and I think that's an understandable human reaction. It would be nice to see MLF get more input.

(I click on ads hoping this will help the podcast. Anyone tell me if this does help in any significant way?)

  7. Definitely a bit underwhelming, but it’s understandable. There was a lot of things that went wrong this season on both sides of the ball. Hopefully though they are figuring it out behind the scenes.

  8. The packers feel in the verge of a stagnant team that has too many good players to ever be bad. The front offices over comfort in being good, not great, is an issue. When MLF came in , there was an intensity, now he seems exhausted and a bit stale himself…I'm sure his QB constantly saying they all need to be mellow and relaxed all the time doesn't help when you're trying to motivate young guys when your old timey vets prefer the easy as it goes pace

  9. I see Jim Leonhard wanted a year off, maybe that's why MLF stayed with Barry for another year. Maybe he has plans to hire Jim next year. Load up and get ready.
As far as Rodgers goes, he is a great quarterback, but as we saw last offseason, he didn't help the Packers by not coming in and working with the new receivers. OK, he has earned his time off, I get that, but if you are looking for excellence as he always says, it takes work and sacrifice. He lost Devante, his main weapon. He can't simply expect it all to automatic without Devante there. OK he still had Cobb and Lazard, but really how much did he use them in the past? The first year under MLF was fun. The team seemed very close and enjoying the season. Remember the "Smith Bros" giving interviews together? The energy was very high in the locker room. It just didn't seem anywhere near to that last year. Rodgers even said he doesn't hang out with the kids because they don't have anything in common. Sure, the team respects him for all his accomplishments, we all do. But maybe, they do need to move on and allow Love, who seems to have a better relationship with the rest of the team, show what he has and get the team running as a team and not as a team of individuals.

  10. We need to trade Jordan love or prepare to pay him like he the best in the league too. We can draft someone new and trade Aaron Rodgers next season if you want but Jordan Love's rookie contract is over.

  11. its a sinking ship and everyone is pointing the finger. this team is divided. never have i ever felt like just walking away from being a fan more than now. there is some changes to be made alright. and it starts at the top

  12. I wish the narrative and analysis around the NFL and on ESPN could be as level-headed as yours. Everyone jumps to conclusions, but the way you broke down what likely happened with Gutey "wanting to move on to Love" was excellent. I know you didn't provide sources for that explanation, but that is definitely closer to was actually happened than anything else you'll hear on a network.

  13. Good-bye, Aaron. Ty for all of those PO losses! Ty for giving that 1st game away to the Lions…not because they outplayed us but because you did NOT execute…thumb or no thumb issues! You were directly responsible for that 2nd half debacle vs Seahawks NFC Championship game…19-0 to defeat! Ugh. Take your dark trip n jump in the Pacific Ocean…please!

  14. Our best game all year was vs the Vikings during wk 17…a beautiful blow-out! Right before the last shoe dropped the next week…Detroit losing access to POs only inspired them to keep us out…that's coaching! Detroit out-coached, out-hustled n out-played us! And then young players lost their cool w/ f'ing trainers! Ugh! An ugly way to p#ss away the yr!

  15. Our expectations of Gary should be low because as a former Catastrophic Injury Disability Expert, I can assure you that it'll take him at least 12 mos post-surgery to feel better, fixed n solid. I really hope our medl staff babies Gary all summer long!

  16. It's been fun watching the mock drafts especially factoring in Aaron being traded. If Bears move down fr #1, that'll open up our chances to pick up high-value Edge rushers n WRs. Please, no Mike Mayer because I don't even think he's the best TE on the board!
