  1. This is going to sound awfully convenient as the channel's resident Stormblood fanatic, but I agree with you about the 1st half of Shadowbringers, Garrett. I loved Rak'Tika and Trolleydad, but I think there are a lot of pacing issues early on that people (maybe willfully) forget about.

  2. ill say holding together a samllish fc is not easy in ff14 cause people go away a 200 person fc prob no issue but 40 or 50 people l… the content gaps hurt for the people who stick around cause we dont want to abandoin our friends in fc but it gets real quiet in the downtime

  3. I think there is a difference between people who played ShB after waiting for months and those who played directly after finishing StB. If you end an expac with a high note and start a new one with a low note, it might appear slow. People who waited for months were hyped by teasers, interviews and trailers, wanting to know more. This made the start more exciting and did not appear so slow or at least fall into the back mind. I was one who waited for months and after looking back, I can totally see how it can feel slow.

  4. I did not find the beginning of Shadowbringers boring or slow at all, though I can see how Garrett and other people similar to him would. By that point in the story I completely trusted the FFXIV storytellers to have a payoff for all their setup. I also REALLY enjoyed an actually subtly frightening fey zone after being thoroughly disappointed by Ardenweald's 'super happy fun fairy time in the goddamn land of the dead for some reason' in WoW.

I am also a person who gets really hooked just doing the exploration part of mmos. I WANT to spend time soaking in these mysterious new environments and learning what's going on in them. Even seeing how the normal people in these strange lands live their lives and helping them with their somewhat mundane problems is fascinating and heartwarming to me. Some of the content I enjoy the absolute most is the exact stuff a lot of other people complain about. There's a beast tribe quest to help them wash some sheets in a river, and LOVE it because the idea that my WoL is humble enough to do that makes me smile, as does the fact that my WoL's actions made the world a safe enough place that this became one of the more pressing things they could even think to send an adventurer to do.

  5. Not a fan of Jesse's take on the removal of job quests in favor for role quests. I like the story for sure, but I enjoyed the personal progression of my character in the job quests, so it feels like that is lost.

  6. 28:20 i overlooked some bits and so i thought FF14 had it too with ShB after Class quest quests, and current patch content, but what i overlooked is that they actually mention eachother. not as much as i like as its just mentions but still.

i mostly like Jessie when he's just playing through stuff with other ppl, be it God of War or some other wierd game with Dodger

  7. The reason limsa is the defacto capital of FF is because of a couple reasons but the main reason is logistics. Everything you need is inches from the aetheryte. Retainers and market board. This means people doing their business is also near where people enter thus it’s populated and creates social areas. It’s well designed to be an idea social space.

  8. So, I've watched a lot of the streams, you guys have the best.
As someone said in chat, part of the reason FF14 does so well is that the only thing we enjoy as much playing the game for the first time is watching others do the same.
I'm with Jesse, the offhand comments that are right or super close are so hard not to comment on.
And lastly 40k has to up their game because Battletech is really gaining ground against them right now.

  9. 30:00 There is actually an equivalent, which is telling someone to get into One Piece.

1:13:20 You are not alone on that, I agree. Though that may connect to my own personal dislike of the tone of Evangelion which is in that part pretty hard.

  10. I'd agree with the beginning of shadowbringers being really slow, but I also made the mistake of going to see alphi first, I actually took my first long break from the game before I managed to even get to Eulmore.

Me to literally anyone who doesn't know about The Expanse. Truly the FF14 of TV Shows. Season 1 is ARR, but once Season 2 kicks in, boy are you in for a treat. Every subsequent seasons builds upon the foundation laid in the previous one and it continues in this fashion all the way to the finale. A finale that, mind you, sticks the landing as well as Endwalker. This is the most immersive Sci-fi show in years and easily forced itself into being my favorite TV Show of all time and I'm so damn pissed that it's not as popular as the plethora of subpar shows on the market right now.

All you FF14 players who feel irritated whenever someone dismisses the game without giving it a proper chance because you just know how life-changing it can be if you take your time with it and let yourself get immersed into the world? The Expanse fans have been feeling that same pain for years now and it pains us that the show isn't getting the recognition it truly deserves. For those of you who gave Andor a chance and want more of that mature, smart and thought-provoking writing, definitely give The Expanse a chance.

  12. Just finished watching and this was such a great talk. I hope you guys get together more often to just talk about stuff, doesn't even needs to be about FF14. You three share a great mix of energy that works well off of each other and I'm now craving for more. A lot of talks are monotonous and I lose interest very quickly (and I'm a guy who loves watching video essays about stuff that are hours long), but you guys managed to keep my investment going for the entire 2 hours with the contagious energy.

Keep it up! Always a pleasure to see two channels I cherish come together to just discuss stuff about our shared passion.

  13. This was such an interesting episode to listen to because I'm the odd man out in almost every FFXIV conversation. I couldn't care any less about any of the story in this game. Not the main story, or any side stories, but it's what almost everyone seems to care about. I will never understand why people love it so much it's just 100 hours of boring dialog and almost nothing going on that I get to do, BUT I love that people are so passionate about it and try to hype other people up about it. To me the MSQ is an obstacle that I have get through to be able to be set free in the world and do whatever it is I feel like doin'. To the rest of FFXIV it's the reason to play and It's such a strange disconnect for me. It really is nice to see people so passionate about it though, it makes me wish I liked it as much as they did.

  14. I'll give another example of a carry-through subplot: the Doman Refugees introduced in 2.1. You spend a while running around trying to find a place for them to live and end up in Mor Dhona, which at the time this bit was launched was just a aetheryte crystal and some tents and ruins. Over the course of Heavensward, Mor Dhona would be built into the fortress town players see today. You even have a questline there where the "Doma Adventurer's Guild" is founded. Then Stormblood sees your WoL free Doma from the Imperials and beginning reconstruction. During that reconstruction, all optional btw, you are sent back to Mor Dhona to let those refugees know they can come home. Another series of quests happen where the refugees are confronted with the dilemma of staying in Mor Dhona, where they has been accepted and made a new home, or return to Doma. It's a great subplot that really makes the story feel like things are moving forward.
