An Islamophobe reads the Qur'an, Surah 12: "Comfort through stories"

Actual Surah title: Joseph

I have begun giving these new titles, other than what the translation indicates, as these reflect what I think about when reading them. I shall leave them in quotation marks to indicate this.

I will be streaming every day here: https://www.twitch.tv/hippopencil

Also, if you want to give some alms to me: https://ko-fi.com/hippopencil
I suspect I will need them, for extra security.

  2. The biggest wall between us Muslims and atheist is the definition of proof itself. Can you tell us, what kind of proofs do you accept? What is your criteria? Are you a hardcore atheist who wants God to open the sky and say hello, or somehow testing our claim in a laboratory? Or you can accept proofs based on reason, testimony, erasing probabilities.. , plz give us a criteria
N also do you believe we can reach the truth? Or you believe the truth is subjective ? These are key points so we can have a common ground

  4. Before clicking on any chapter in the website, please see there are 3 oprions ….. Surah Juz Revelation Order……….. you are currently in the Surah section .. this is when quran is compiled after several hundred years… and thats why you get confused when there is something good in privious chapter and now bad in this or vice versa … I am not suggesting anything but if you click on……Revelation Order….. you will find the actual order in which the quran was revealed to mohammad ,, and then when you read them in the Revelation Order you will understand why all the meccan surahs are somewhat polite and medinian surahs are violent .. its because first 13 years of his revelation he had no more than 100 companions , but when he went to medina he gathere murderers and then violent verses are suddenly revealed to mohammad and thats why 9th chapter that you already read is acrually the last chapter and violence starts

  5. hello, keep in mind that revelation did not come in the order of the canonical chapters, the first actual revelation was the first five verses of one of the last canocial chapters which is called surah al-alq surah 96 even in the same chapter diffrent verses came at diffrent times and they were composed by the prophet beace upon him and his closest companion so when ur reading this context matters beacuse the longer chapters are when the muslims werent being porsecuted in the city mecca and were in medinah and in medinah when they settle these are when u find typically the legastlative chapters and its there u will find the harsher verses, the muslims didnt ask any questions when this revlation came down beacuse their faith in god was so strong from previous revelationthat won their hearts over, if god were to start with laws and hellfire and punishment, no one will become muslim and this is a common theme in the previous scriptures like the torah

  6. Your intellect and insight are remarkable. It's a shame that such analytical skills, which could be used to illuminate the beauty and depth of the Quran, are currently focused on interpretations that may inadvertently perpetuate misunderstandings. Imagine the impact you could have by channeling your understanding towards a more nuanced and balanced perspective of Islam, fostering greater discoveries about the quran ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. This may sound obvious but it may be worth pointing out, the word used for โ€˜Godโ€™ in Arabic (Allah) even in the pre-islamic era is separate to the word used for โ€˜godsโ€™/deity (things that are worshipped) in English. As in the word Allah was used to refer to the thing ultimately responsible for existence (without the theological baggage) which is different to the word used for deity in Arabic. In English the word God would be used for both of those concepts. Hence why you see the word โ€˜Godโ€™ used in place of similar English phrases referring to nature or the universe (I wouldnโ€™t consider it as a metaphor for nature as you suggest to be accurate in that regard). Itโ€™s also why the comparisons are portrayed so obviously (since itโ€™s referring to the thing ultimately responsible for existence) but since the same word is used in English the distinction loses its clarity. The point you got caught up in this video is one example, but the English translation of the Shahada could be another: โ€œthere are no gods except Godโ€. This is the first video of yours that Iโ€™ve watched but you may also see this illustrated elsewhere in the Quran when it quotes the Meccan(or Medinan) polytheists stance on Allah.
This isnโ€™t exclusive to Arabic, the greeks also kept the concept of โ€˜thing ultimately responsible for existenceโ€™ separate from the gods they worshipped (there stance was basically that it was beyond them intellectually).
In most Christian faiths these two thing are conceptually intertwined since it is God the ultimate that is believed to be incarnated in a human deity form (Aka Jesus) so it would be historically interesting to see how that theology influenced the language around the topic.

  9. The surprising thing is, yes, this was in some ways beyond the knowledge of prophet Muhammad (pbuh). A closer reading shows that in this chapter, the ruler of Egypt is referred to as king while the ruler at the time of Moses is referred to as Pharoah. This is historically accurate as the word Pharoah would not have referred to the ruler at the supposed time of Joseph. In the bible however, both the rulers of Joseph and Moses are referred to as Pharoah. If the prophet simply collected the stories of the bible, why would he make this clear distinction? And more over, how would he have access to this knowledge being a 7th Century Arab man.

  10. @9:05 value, yes your logic makes sense, but I encourage you to think the other side. Value doesn't always equate to materialism. For example someone is valuable based on what they can do or what they know. So it could be value to a society. Teachers are considered valuable to the society, lawyers are considered valuable to a society so as the medical value. This is why I encourage you to also think beyond what at first comes to your mind.

  11. @13:34 Quran is not like the Bible where it states the stories and full stories at a time. Quran spreads the stories throughout, clarifying things of the stories later in other surahs. The first few chapters give a lot of details, but even in later chapters there's still a bit more information about the stories of the first few chapters.

  12. Haha, that "well" pun was quite well-timed (no pun intended here, or maybe there is, idk). I want to add that the stories in the Qur'an are not going to be told like the bible.

As a muslim, im agnostic on what is truth and falsehood in the bible (unless there is a direct contradiction with the Qur'an, in which the Qur'an is taken as the authority), so I essentially cannot say that the way in which Allah revealed this same story to the later children of israel is not its original way of revelation – which is an admittedly complicated way of saying that idk if the original Torah has the story of joseph taking up like half of genesis with completely irrelevant and mind-numbingly boring details (no offence to jews/christians but the OT did not need to be that long), as it does right now. The thing with the Qur'an is that it is not going to start and finish the entire story in one go (in certain cases), e.g. the story of moses is constantly referenced with different aspects and focuses. So with the story of Joseph, we aren't witnesses to the full context of the story, but we receive much more guidance from it nonetheless. In other words, Allah always gets to the point.

  13. About the womens treachery part (12:28), it think that translation is a bit misleading, so this is the sahih international translation of it:

So when he [i.e., her husband] saw his shirt torn from the back, he said, "Indeed, it is of your [i.e., women's] plan. Indeed, your plan is great [i.e., vehement].

The tafsir says that the plan is about destroying the reputation of men who reject these types of women, which honestly still applies in the modern day, especially in north america. So it isnt supposed to be about all women in my understanding (since that would not make sense), but about this specific type of women. I actually find it very funny how some things never change

  14. Kindly compare this story with the Biblical accounts of Joseph in Genesis 37. What are the differences? Let's have your honest opinion and response. Why is God repeating this story through Muhammad when it's already in the Jewish scriptures? Kindly compare and respond.

You believe that you came from nothing, then after millions of years you became a bacteria, then after millions of years you became a fish, then after millions of years you became a monkey, then after millions of years you became human, then after millions of years you remained human. It's strange when you talk about evidence And you actually believe in Satan and are in solidarity with him, meaning you reject God even though you know that He is right You have to be a little humble. You were a nobody, so you started reading the Qurโ€™an. Some Muslims came to you to invite you When you stop reading the Qurโ€™an, you will return to being a nobody as you were You are trying to deceive yourself that you are strong, but in reality you are a coward and this is clear from your face, so you must put yourself in its true place. Then start working on improving yourself step by step So you don't fall and get hurt

  16. Scholars of Tafsir explained that in Yusufโ€™s dream the eleven stars represent his brothers, who were eleven, and the sun and the moon represent his father and mother. This explanation was collected from Ibn `Abbas, Ad-Dahhak, Qatadah, Sufyan Ath-Thawri and `Abdur-Rahman bin Zayd bin Aslam.

  17. After finishing the Quran, could you watch the videos on Quranic maricles? It's important to understand that you're reading and understanding Quran in english, not in Arabic which is very stronger language in any form. Because you judge Quran as word of poetry and not as word of God, look at the maricles it has with Arabic words and perfectionalism and historically accurate informations that got pass from historians. I'm not approving the Quran by history, it's just Quran approving history itself.

  18. This guy is a liar, deceiver and a fraud. Proof? At 4:40 , he interprets from the 4th verse that there are 11 planets but the word used here is 'star'. Coincidentally, islamphobes try to mistranslate this word to try to show the Quran got the number of planets wrong even though this verse has got nothing to do with astronomy, it is a dream that conveys a metaphor.

Don't let the enemies of Islam use our good nature and husnuzh zhan (good thoughts) against us.

  20. I watched you read Surat Yusuf and you treated the story as if it was just a story or that the words in it were just human words,,, but believe me, this is not human words and it is not words that you are accustomed to hearing or that your brain is familiar with,,,When the brothers came to honor their father, they said, โ€œWe went to get ahead of ourselves and left Joseph with our belongings, but the wolf ate him.โ€ Joseph here is honesty, and here God sets an example for all people with honesty, and how they compete in the world, which one has the most beautiful house, who has the most women, who has the most wealth,,, and they abandon religion. Honesty and essential matters are eaten by the wolf, and the wolf here is Satan, a symbol of Satan..And this same proverb has meanings about the story of Adam and Satan. The brothers here represent Satan and what happened between Adam and Satan. Adam took off his shirt and his clothes in Paradise, and his story was related to blood, and this is a matter that needs a long explanation. The story of Joseph with the wife of the Mighty One, who tempted him, is meanings about Eve when she tempted Adam, and she was the wife of the Mighty One. Al-Aziz is an example and symbol of Satan and why evil and eva is like male and female .. Eve betraying Adam…But the thing that you will notice well is the two visions of the two prisoners. Why was the first promising and the second containing a threat, and why the kingโ€™s vision also began with a promising matter and then a threat? Try to imagine what if the vision had been classified as nonsense and fantasies, or if they had not believed Joseph when he explained it to them, what would the situation have been like?? They were all going to perish due to drought, and here is the message about destruction and salvation. Joseph represents the message and the revelation. If you obey him, you will be saved. If you neglect him, you will perish. And Josephโ€™s interpretation of the vision means that the messengers do not bring anything of themselves. They only explain and convey the message, nothing more, nothing less, and the vision of the king that occurred and happened is a symbol of… On the Day of Judgment, Paradise and Hell will occur, whether you believe it or not. Storing ears of corn is saving good deeds for the Day of Judgment And the lean years that eat up the fat are the bad deeds that will eat up the good deeds, and this is in the balance of deeds. And the additional good deeds are what you will be saved with. This Surah is a summary of everything that was mentioned in the Qurโ€™an, and it is deeper than what you imagine. When Joseph said, โ€œNo food will come to you that you are provided with except that We will inform you of its interpretation before it brings you guidance.โ€ What you will find in the Qurโ€™an, you will find that it tells you about your food in Paradise before you enter it and about your food in Hell before it comes to you. The prison is the world. The first life is the prison of the believer and the paradise of the disbeliever. The first life.

  21. This is the worst translation I have ever read. The translation doesn't do the slightest justice to the meaning. Stop doing these reading, or at least read a better translation. Your insight and commentary also very disrespectful. You know that most of the people that watch these videos believe in God, and you are insulting the Creator.
