The American F-15 EX is a new super interceptor fighter jet that is designed to patrol some of the world’s most disputed air space in the south China Sea and Eastern Europe. In fact NATO scrambled jets 570 times more than once per day in 2022 to respond to Russian aircraft. And Japan is forced to scramble F-15’s every time China violates their airspace. The number of Chinese airspace incursions has jumped up from 96 in 2010 to 675 in 2019.
But critics have been quick to point out the F-15 is ancient. It was originally manufactured in 1976 and is headed into retirement. Many are questioning the logic of investing millions of dollars into upgrading the F-15 into the EX. Because it seems like a step backwards in this modern fancy era of stealth technology. But the truth is it’s not that simple. The new F-15 will have some weapons and flight capabilities that modern stealth aircraft lack. Fire an aim 9 sidewider at the like button and lets get started.

In producing the F-15EX we admittedly took the long scenic route. So the way it happened was during the early 2000s the F22 was supposed to replace the aging F15 but it’s program’s budget was slashed by 75%. This led to only 195 aircraft purchased which is a third of what the US air force originally wanted. In 2009 The F-22 production lines were completely shut down and are impossible to restart. This forced the air force to keep the old F15 past its expiration date in order to maintain a fleet size large enough to respond to air space violations in Europe and the pacific at the same time.
So in order to solve for the lack of F-22s the United States Air Force decided to order 104 of the new upgraded F-15EX multirole fighter, marking the first order of F-15s in over 20 years.
Earlier this year, the United States Air Force announced that after two years of extensive testing and study, their latest upgrades to the F-15 platform dubbed the EX had actually ‘smashed a new record’ in terms of capabilities and expectations. What this means is that it is able to perform as both a fighter and bomber except at a much lower cost than the F35. Now according to Boeing the new plans will extend the service life of the aircraft well into the 2030s, which would make it the longest serving fighter aircraft in American history.
Unsurprisingly like all decisions involving the military industrial complex it was met with a bunch of support and criticism from political leaders and internet forums trolls. But To be fair you can understand where they are coming from. The sticker price on a new F-15EX will run you about $80 million, while the most recent batches of F-35As cost only slightly less at $78 million, leading many to rightfully question why the government has decided to spend more money on an old aircraft originally built in 1976 with zero stealth capabilities. I think a lot of it comes down to its interceptor and escort abilities.

Any plane that can land with one wing is a keeper. Right Israel?
I like the F-4 Fathom, but it's a Vietnam era fighter jet. The U.S is stuck in the Ronald Regan1990's military, but the world has moved on. Today the F-15 is living on past glory.
Even older F14s can still make a difference, but the 14s, 15s and 16s were all incredible designs.
Lol that Chinese dude "please go away quickly". And the US pilot comes back with an official and professional response.
We are supposed to take that shit hole of a country seriously?
Cappy, you're the only person from New York ill ever say this to. Don't change! You're perfect the way you are.
OK.. Does anyone else find it absolutely hilarious that Chris has to say "Non Firing Replicas" on Goat Guns? Which I would not have known about without your channel. Got another 10 pack!
Russia pulling something out of mothballs from the 70s: omg much retard so poor America pulling something out of mothballs from the 70s: wow big brain, saves money so smart.
F-15 Will live forever, much like the BUFF
I came into this very sceptical, but if their radar is actually that good, no need to worry about stealth. They could fire all 12 missiles, and RTB to re-arm with that range, if they don't try intercepting.
The engine should boost it enough so it doesn't have as much drag when holding onto all 12 missiles, seems like a new work horse
Btw, i didn’t know they can speak English
Its a sick plane, but you are being cheeky and spreading disinformation here claiming China 'invaded airspace'. (as so many of our western media outlets are doing)
You are using an ADIZ ('Air defense identification zone' which has nothing to do with sovereign territory) as a synonym for territorial airspace. which is absolutely isn't. Its basically where your military radars reach to.
The US 'invades" peoples ADIZ all the damn time, if you take that definition ?
Love the way that you didnt call out that apparently Taiwan's ADIZ actually covers a good chunk of the Chinese mainland. ?
ADIZ means nothing in reality
Cheaper running costs say no more.
People should just really read Tyler Rogoway's reporting at the Warzone. When it comes to passing off targeting data, most 4th gen US (and NATO) fighters use the link 16 protocol. Both the F-22 and the F-35 use different communication protocols (MADL for the F-35)
So chappy is half correct here………except he misses that both the U2 and Global Hawk (that i know of…im sure there is more, probably tankers) have been tested and fitted with something like the BACN communications gateway that can receive, interpret and transmit the different protocols/waveforms from the fighter types. So as long as you have at least one of them in the airspace, all the fighters can communicate their data.
Again… just read the WarZone
This is not merely a block upgrade that is what people need to understand about the EX, these are entirely new air frames built from the ground up with new capabilities, so these things have a long life cycle ahead of them, and honestly you don't need a stealth aircraft for every single mission, if you want to do interdiction against a country that has vastly outdated or even no air defense the EX excels in that environment, you don't need to pull the Lambo out of the garage when you are going to the drive through for a burger.
The F-15 is out of date for a peer competitor fight but China is the only peer competitor, and even China has a large 4th generation air fleet, because at a certain point in protracted warfare your slick next gen high speed platforms are going to be down a lot for maintenance in between sorties.
No vectoring thrust. Yuck.
Modernizing old stuff is a fascinating thing. But i would not want to be an F-15-EX pilot in a big conflict…
Dude just got some serious social credit score boost with his rant on understanding chinas concerns! Congrats!
As far as I can tell no F15 has ever been shot down in an Air to Air engagement.
So do we just add any results to the F-15's disgusting A2A record, or do we make the EX start its own tally?
The F-15 -ANY, has always been at the pinnacle of deadly force in the air. In all of it's existence, no other plane has had the Radar/EW to beat it, or the aerodynamic performance to beat it mano-a-mano! The current plane is two to four generations ahead of it's competitors in the Avionics arena and that is where it counts the most! Old aircraft at the edge of retirement can easily track, lock-up and if required destroy any Sov-Chinese plane and have demonstrated this ability in many air intercepts around the world. Think how much better the newest version will be?
Pretty much the fastest fighter jets we have, IIRC.
US has the potential to build high tech weapon machines but it's all overpriced.
China benefitted from the Bretton Woods agreement, so China gets American Freedom of Navigation operations off their coast. They also get a US Dollar reserve currency.
They could have refused the agreement and stayed a devastated wasteland after WW2 I suppose.
👌
You know I'm actually suprised that people complain on how he pronounces "nuclear" and not the fact that he said "ordinance" instead of "ordnance" (2 really different things😅)
MIG 31 is Mach 2.83. It's faster than F15. A big jet, it can carry the hypersonic Kinzhal as well as operate as an interceptor. So there is a role for fast interceptor/bomb trucks linked to sensor fusion with stealth in the mix.
I think it's time to include the phrase "non-stealthy 5th Gen aircraft" into the vocabulary. This would be a 4+++ Gen aircraft otherwise. It is not stealthy because that isn't necessary for how it will be used. The computing power, the radar, the information fusion, the lethality, the ability to be that battlefield quarterback for other aircraft, UAVs, etc. All the European fighters, f16s, etc, are all middle weights, built to proliferate high end capacity. This "F15" is a praetorian guard samurai heavy weight that engages everything from satellites to aircraft carriers to tanks on the battle field, and everything in between. To be clear, this "looks" like an F15, it is even called an F15, but it is a new aircraft, built from the ground up for war in the most modern of peer competitions. That's my opinion. I think it's time, in these inclusive times, to let non-stealths into the 5th Gen. Love the analysis T&P.
Why not swing for the fences and have the Air Force order 350???
The MIG25 is the fastest fighter, it is discontinued but in that case, the 31 is.
the F15 is fucking sexy!
According to Kyle Hill, "Nuclear" and "Nucular" are both commonly accepted pronunciations in the field of nuclear technology. I will always pronounced it "new-clear" but thats how I always heard it pronounced. If professionals in the nuclear technology and research community arent bothered by it then I wouldnt worry about it.
I hear people pronounce Homage as "ha-madj" but I always knew it as "Oh-maj" as an old french word that was adopted into English. French pronunciation sounds so much better imo, the other just doesnt sound right. Both are common and both are accepted. Doesnt mean I have to like the sound of one of them, just that I have to accept its a legit commonly accepted way to say it and that all that matters is I know what they are talking about. Either way you say Nuclear everyone knows what you are talking about and thats all that matters. Words and language developed for us to convey an idea from one individual to another and Nucular vs Nuclear is just pointless semantics.
Keep being awesome dude.
These are new production F15 aircraft and have capabilities only imagined when the first legacy version appeared in the 1970's. These aircraft were designed to be air superiority fighters and have the unique "In your Face" deterrence that inspire any air intrusion aircraft to quietly leave with their tail in between their legs. These aircraft are also faster than the F22 or F35 and present a formidable obstacle to even 5th generation Russian fighters especially with the AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles and when developed the AIM-260 JATM. Another feature that many fighter pilots really like in addition to high performance is having an aircraft with two engines. If one engine flares out you can still fly home. I support building as many of these new F15 aircraft as the nation needs.
So the f15 is the best fighter in the world again.
Looks great. Good job
"Who believes in heart that Christ died to take sins of people and after that rose again -will be Saved."Repent for time is short
I read that the F-35 can’t go supersonic for more than several minutes due to burning up the special radar-absorbing coating it has. So the F-15 EX has atleast the advantage on that.
In the 2030's the F-35 will still have problems.
We just got the new f35 in town and seen em flying touch and goes the other day was pretty badass yo. Sound of freedom!!!! Read it cost $75,000 to maintain it a day. Not sure how true that is but they pricey for sure!!
Rough cut at 15:17.
Luv you
good info dude
61 and counting!
To be fair china is not (completely) wrong on Americas hypocrisy concerning international air space control. With south Korea. japan and Taiwan Americas air space does in practice extend far beyond it's borders (projection of power) with certain caveats of course. Let us be honest here America is a nation that has started some 150 wars and conflicts across the planet since world war 2 ended that/it is not a nation that embraces peace with it's neighbors on fair/equal terms. After all there is tens of trillions of dollars at stake in making sure global peace never happens.
Tbh give everyone f-15's. Gods work.
STOL/MTD been done wrong by not giving the EX Canards.
