They thought MacArthur "deserted" his men. LOL. He was ordered to remove to safety, the Joint Chiefs knowing he'd be better for future needs.
What they didn't realize was the battleship had become obsolete with the advent of the aircraft carrier.
The American pilot may have missed the pilot house, but his action may have convinced Nagumo to switch to land bombs, dooming the carrier(s).

We had broken the Naval Code. We knew there plan.
All of these accounts rely on some future negotiated peace settlement. This was NEVER going to happen after what Americans regarded as the treachery of Pearl Harbor.
The Japanese could have prevailed if they had never declared war on the United States. All they really needed were the Dutch holdings, which could have been taken very quietly.
They should have spoken very deferentially toward the United States in many public ways. The American public had no desire to lose their sons in some worthless jungle. As long as they had no reason to hate the Japanese the Americans would have been content to let them conquer all of Asia. Pearl Harbor, the way it was conducted, was the exact worst way to deal with the Americans. It assured the defeat of the Japanese Empire from the outset.

As much as I have enjoyed War Tales Uncharted videos the series has to be the least organized, most jumbled up, unfollowable mess I have ever tried to watch!

MacArthur did as he was ordered to do by Frankie, who sucked Japan into war so Frankie could fellate Joe Stalin. Once Roosevelt got his war, he promptly ignored the Pacific and started shoveling aid to the Commie swill!
Time was not on the Japanese side as they knew once the industrial might of the US was started they could not compete. Midway was gamble they had to make. It was a good plan but little did they know there code had been some what broken. They knew the plan. Midway broke the Back of the Japanese navy. They never recovered from the defeat.
