The Barbary Wars are a forgotten conflict in American history between the American Revolution and the War of 1812. Did you know the United States fought a war AGAINST pirates! A whole bunch of “firsts” for the American military occurred in this conflict, setting precedent for the future of American military engagements. Also, the Treaty of Tripoli came out of this conflict, which has been used to justify that the US government is NOT founded on the Christian religion. What does that have to do with the Barbary Wars? Find out with The Fat Electrician and Mr. Terry!

Should the Barbary Wars be talked about more in American History classes? If so, what other topics should it take time away from to cover it?
This video is basically about America inventing FAFO
The Barbary Wars are likely not taught in schools because it brings up slavery in a way which does not implicate the US or Western Europe. As in it is not PC enough for 'modern' education.
So yes it should be taught. As should the full breadth of slavery including modern slavery.
20:37 This is what we call foreshadowing.
33:55 Sadly it seems people refuse to learn this.
how stupid do you have to be to put SOMEONE ELSES AD in your video? he doesnt get any money from your views, you dont get any money from the ad, AND you waste everyones time, its a LOSE LOSE LOSE situation
The Barbary pirates are a major part of the game Empire: Total War. I also learned about them in AP History and elsewhere, though I had never known this much detail.
Thank you subbed to this guy he's awesome
I would say nobody knows what part of the history lesson to replace with this because its the parts we dont remember that need to be replaced. Im well versed in history and loved it in high school and college. But anything i can name, i can name because it was important enough to remember. Theres definitely some in there that i dont recall though and thats what should be pulled to make room for this
Both my parents were WWII veterans, but they bought the Time-Life illustrated history of the United States, which did cover the Barbary Pirates. Mom had been a Marine.
The Fat electrician has, in fact, done a video on the O'Bannon…great video. It's when he was still doing short form content
A pair of quotes about the Second Battle of Tripoli from Horatio Nelson and Pope Pius VII in order.
"The most bold and daring act of the age."
"The United States, though in their infancy, have done more to humble the anti-Christian barbarians on the African coast than all the European states had done…
Yes it’s consequential enough to be talked about in school. I read about this in Jr High. My parents collected time Life US history books. I wish we still had them.
"So, Great Britain launches another war against America."
Hold on! As a loyalist canuck, I feel compelled to note that it was the U.S. that declared war, the U.S. that invaded first (battle of York), and that it was the Canadians thst had to fight off this invasion for two years before the British were done with the French.
I had heard of the Barbary Wards before, but oddly enough it was from learning Swedish military history, who was at war with the Ottomans during the same time, allied with us, and helped with naval blockades around Tripoli.
If I recall correctly this is what brought about the Islamic religion ban by the government
just wait till he finds out who john paul jones is
This video can be summarized as the US saying "get f'd".
You know, when talking about a pirate's favorite letter, you may think it would be R. But to tell the truth, their true love be the C
When you think about it, this is the first American war in the Middle East
You tend to learn it if you take Marine ROTC or join the Marines because there are three things that come from the missions here and that's the lines in the core's hymn, the Mameluke sword and the first Marine core nickname Leathernecks
