  1. For me title is wrong. Zen 5 is awesome CPU's with is's efficiency/performance balance…. The only thing wrong with them is ABSURD prices , they will have to go down else this cpu's won't sell .

  2. The comparisons that actually matter, here.

AMD marketing promised so much, and what they delivered were higher prices. This was a node reduction disguised as architectural. TSMC promised lower costs for 4 nm, lets see if buyers or even AMD ever see it.

  3. They had basically two years and this is what they release…hahahahah. I guess it's good that both Intel and AMD are both fumbling, so we can still have some sort of competition 🙂

  4. please add unreal engine benchmarks too. its the real world application for this type of cpu. Compile the latest version from source and also compile shader(cache cleared).
edit: make sure its not ram or i/o bottlenecked.

  5. You get 5%+ while consuming considerably less power and on lower temps
PBO is the least efficient way to overclock Zen 5 as we've seen with the R5 and R7 benchmarks from many OC oriented reviewers
You can absolutely increase horsepower by an additional 5-10% without increasing watt consumption. Yes this is AMD's fault but not one where the consumer cannot fix with simple BIOS tinkering, making it a great value CPU, especially in a couple of months with the expected price drops, since reviewers like you have given Zen 5 a bad name.

  6. It's interesting to see how close the Epyc is to the two Ryzens here. It seems the 9950x performs best in productivity benchmarks, so it might be interesting to see how it compares with the Epyc in more server based or scientific/simulation workloads.

  7. Good comparison! I just built an Epyc 4584PX system (7950X3D) on a Supermicro board to run a couple dozen VMs. Fully loaded it idles at 61W and is significantly faster than the 24 core Epyc 7402p system it replaced. Now if they could only make a good RAID solution…

  8. Seriously think about this. Wendel of Level1Techs found that he was able to get 10 extra frames in Cyberpunk by running the game as an Administrator. What does that tell you about Ryzen 5 on Windows.

  9. The real issue is the new motherboards arent out yet. Faster infinity fabric clocks are needed and support for better timings are needed for higher 1:1 RAM.
With regards to the Uplift we saw from AM4 to AM5, that was purely down to higher clocks and newer memory support.

If we can get the fabric to run at 2500mhz with a 1:1 timing on the 9950X with a DDR5 kit thats running at 7000, perhaps we will actually see a difference.
Thats all I think we can look out for on these….

  10. The epyc comparison was a nifty comparison.

I've seen some articles talking about turning smt off for better performance. I get that's not a real world practical solution, but that would be another interesting angle.

  11. I feel you were pretty harsh with amd on your review. I know i don’t have to like your review but you could miss lead some people from other reviewers. There is a issue with windows decreasing performance by 6 to 8 % do to administrator issue. The video is out for a current fix and windows update to soon come. That will make your test results if you didn’t do the fix change and up lift the 5% marks you got more of what they marketed. And as we all know marketing is marketing so thats why we have reviews. You may want to do a retest of your info states when updates come out.
