Longtime Marvel writer Jason Aaron made his debut on Batman this week. Batman Offworld may not be the most daring comic, but there is something to enjoy here. At this point, does it make you a sucker to believe Jason Aaron can write a story without destroying the character? Wes and Dok review Batman Offworld #1 and try to determine if Wes is a complete sucker. Is DC Comics the change Jason Aaron needs to rediscover his ability to tell a good comic book story? Am I a sucker for buying in Jason Aaron Batman Offworld?

Wes doesn’t like Jason Aaron’s Thor?!
I'm with Dok…Once bitten,man.
Read Punisher…Read Thor…Read Avengers…and I came away ,midway through their runs thinking,"What the Blue Fuck????!!!!"
Big. HARD!!! Pass.
I loved Jason Aaron's Thor run but dropped his Avenger's run half way thru. This opening issue of Batman: Offworld is really good. It is accessible, classic Miller-Year-One-Batman in space. Having read issue 2 already I can promise you that if you liked issue 1 you will love issue 2. The stakes are raised for Batman's first galactic adventure.
Im a massive Batman fan. This is a meh comic. I agree it will be something stupid like Batman was just in a simulation off world his whole life or some stupid shit that in the end will mean nothing.
Sorry, not interested even if it’s an elseworld story.
To answer Dok's question about Ghost Rider, yes he ruined the Danny Ketch version
People should never apologize for anything they write or draw King Conan 3 controversy is how I'm saving some money PS The people offended don't actually buy comics
Batman…. INNNN SPACE!
Awesome work guys
Fantastic break down guys
I found it weird, I felt like I was reading 2000ad
After what he did to Punisher, I was afraid that Aaron was going to take over on Daredevil after Zdarsky, so I’m relieved he’s at DC now. Unless he takes over writing Batman from Zdarsky…
I wouldn't give that punisher killer the sweat off my hind end
I like Aaron Sparrow
I didn't read much of Aaron except for Star Wars and Punisher. His run in Star Wars was great and he did a much better job writing Obi-Wan than the guys from the TV show, and, unpopular opinion, I really enjoyed his Punisher. I thought I would hate it, but the more I read, the more I wanted to keep following. And to me, his Punisher was thousand times better then Zdarsky's Daredevil, which turned Matt into a freaking asshole
Batman should not be in space.
Be honest, Wes. We're all here for Doug's beautiful aliens.
This is a Reminder that Bruce Wayne, Batman will become Public Domain in about 11 Years and a Month from now.
Why do I bring this up? Oh…no reason….
😤 I can’t do it.
Doug Mahnke's art on The Mask blew me away as a teen, so happy to see he's still doing amazing work.
the bat cash cow should be just as good in space, as he was in the Flash fighting the Kryptoinians.
Meanwhile, Nightwing's comic revealed he has a fox fursona because of course he does. Nightwing's "fans" don't really understand the character, they just try to turn him into whatever feeds their fetishes at the time. This is the state of modern Batman comics and I hate it. It should be burned to the ground.
To be fair to Aaron, most of these stories where he's ruined characters were Marvel choices — he's just the hitman, he didn't put out the hit.
Aaron doesn't have any tools in the toolbox.
We were vending at our LCS for Local Comic Shop Day last Wednesday, and I had time to skim through a few books on the stands this week. I was attracted to Batman Off World by the alien on the cover who had a costume somewhat similar to Aphrodite IX. Looking through the issue, it became clear that she was a new gorgeous Tamaranian character that Jason Aaron was introducing, and Lord knows we could use a couple of those. Her name is IONE (EYE-OWN-EE), actually, not "Eno", as Wes tries to pronounce it. Like the British actress Ione Skye. It seemed like one of the better Big 2 comics I saw on the shelf. And you know what it reminded me of? The origin story of Starfire where she gets kidnapped by the Okaaran slave traders. Always down for a decent space opera with lasers, spaceships, and hot alien girls.
Yes. Give it 2 more issues
Wes, I like you. But if you aren't getting payola for promoting utter feces, then you should probably have a long sit-down with yourself as to why you are a masochist.
Jason Aaron PTSD is a real thing……
Wait, do people not like Aaron's Thor run?
Looks fun
Sorry, listening to Doc complaining constantly about everyone and everything drains the life out of me. The novelty especially wears off in a situation like this where it’s a good book, written and drawn well.
If you complain about the good stuff it makes the criticism of the bad stuff far less constructive or insightful.
I appreciate the balance from your comics of the week videos, but every now and again it would be nice to hear Doc being pleasantly surprised by something otherwise the Doc videos are just going to become an easy skip for me, the same way I skip a lot of DC and Marvel comics when I see certain names on a book.
Yeah, Aaron is a king of retcons. Never liked his writing
Don't worry about it. We all get conned. I dislike Stupidman for numerous reasons so when I found out they were going to kill him off via Doomsday I got excited and bought the issue naively believing it was permanent( I was new to comics and didn't know about the revolving door known as comic book death).
I read it to give Aaron a chance I hated it . I thought it was terrible and I didn’t like dialogue. I’m not buying any more issues
Honestly I feel like it gonna go off the rails soon but the redeeming part is definitely gonna Doug Manke art
I probably won’t get issue 2. Too weird and too many weird names.
Lame story. It didn’t grab me and the jarring transition to Gotham at the end made no sense whatsoever. I re-read it three times and it is a horrible transition. I don’t know if it’s a flashback or what the hell it is. Frustrated and won’t buy issue 2!
