  1. The Red Wings didn't get the draft luck to get that Mackinnon type player, but they may have a ridiculously good dcore in a couple years with guys like Edvinsson knocking at the door and Sandin-Pelikka tearing up the SHL.

  2. Happy with the improvement but id say the major concern is some contracts. we do have a log jam of good prospects who deserve a shot in the nhl. If detroit can offload some expiring deals for a good defenseman ( acquiring chychrun while offloading 2 players) can help eliminate some of that log jam. Berggren deserves a full time NHL spot and i fear we will lose him if he doesnt get some games. Edvinsson is miles better than jeff petry, but yet again…. log jam.
As for free agents, no damn idea, but there are some names that are intriguing (Debrusk, Reinhart, Hanifin)
I can genuinely see detroit only resigning kaner/ sprong out of the UFA list.

  3. Looking at Detroit, Chicago & Anaheim at the bottom of this list it shows when your team is good for a long time, as those three were, you better enjoy it because bad times are coming and they will last, especially in a 32 team league. It will only get worse with further expansion. The Penguins are next to come, once the Crosby generation is gone. I think in a 40 team NHL, teams will go multiple decades without seeing the playoffs.

  4. I’m over 50 years of age ,been a wings fan my whole life. The team is a year ahead of schedule in my opinion. I think they make a good run for the last playoff spot, even if they fall short of that spot they are definitely trending in the right direction

  5. Super happy not only with Yzerman( anyone who says it's taken too long forgot the severity of the mess he inherited) but with Lalonde too. I think we play well vs the top teams a lot of the time even without the gamebreakers they have and that he'll be part of getting us into a strong position in the league.

  6. I like Kane, a lot. I think he brings that kind of threatening presence we want on offense, and great playmaking ability that meshes well with our system. We just need to stay healthy up front, so I agree another strong, sniper presence would be great to have and really push us over the edge. I also think that we need depth in net, for sure true. One thing we've sacrificed this season, though, and teams have capitalized on this, is some of our two way game. We get burned, badly, on defense. We used to have a very strong backcheck game, and it's still there if we force teams to slow down their exit or the neutral zone, but often we end up in a 2-3 on 1 situation or our defense makes a move and gets burned. Part of it is the gameplan now, how we cycle more around the offensive zone with only 1 player in the high slot, how the D leads more zone entries on a give and go, and I can't deny the results, but there's also bad results, too, and they cloud the victories a little too much for my taste.

  7. Besides the need for a long term solution in net, the Wings need at least one of their bluechip defensive prospects to hit. Detroit's defense is still largely pieced together around Seider and if they can get Edvinsson or ASP to live up to their potential, then they can really start to drive offense starting from the blueline beyond the top line and become a much more dangerous team in the process. Once they start creating matchup problems for other teams for the first time since the Datsyuk and Zetterberg years, that's when you might see Debrincat really thrive as a Wing.

  8. I don't understand why people make such a big deal out of the "Yzerplan." Is it simply because it's a fun, made-up word to say? I don't see anything remarkable about Detroit's rebuild. It's taking a frustratingly long time, just like with other teams. Sincere question: How well has Detroit drafted since Yzerman became the GM?

  9. Nothing better than rivals getting off on opposing teams losing. I was there when the Red Wings were winning Cups in the 90's and 2000's. FOUR of them to be exact. (4 more than Toronto) lol had to say it.

  10. my biggest concern is, were like what? 3mill. from the cap and we got Seider and Raymond contracts coming up and they are both making less an 1 mill each right now. so, were gonna lose guys just to be able to afford them(mainly Seider cause hes gonna kill us lol), and i know theres guys we can afford to lose, but still, i think seider alone is gonna go for around 9mill/yr. i understand its expected to age well over time, but still. hopefully with how good we looked this season, FA's really start givin us deals to come here(and i really think they will). i know it wont be like New York Ranger deals, but we def. need some deals this off season lol

  11. It's very difficult to do a rebuild without draft lottery "luck" – let's talk picks from 2017: 2017 – no 9 (Ras), 2018 no 6 (Zadina), 2019 no 6 (Seider), 2020 no 4 (Raymond), 2021 no 6 (Edvinsson), 2022 no 8 (Kasper), 2023 no 9 (Danielson) – if a team has the lowest point average in that time frame and does not get a single pick in top three then it really slows the rebuild, not once have the Red Wings moved up in the Draft – and only 3 times they didn't move down and only one pick in top 5- and at the same time teams like New Jersey, Buffalo, Chicago, Montreal, Anaheim, Colorado – get multiple top 5 selections. So great respect to Steve Yzerman that he can build a steadily improving franchise not getting fueled by obvious talent. #LGRW

  12. Yzerman is doing great but the system Lalonde plays requires defenseman who can execute that system with out conceding as many goals as they do, I disagree that we need a superstar forward because we have scored the most goals in the eastern conference but we concede too many and most of the time not the fault of our goalies

  13. Man, our Wings got so shafted on draft picks during the "Dark Ages". We had one 4th overall pick (Raymond), yet finished last/near last for like 5 years. Hurts the rebuild process missing out on those valuable top 3 picks.

  14. I agree with you that the wings #1 need is a game breaker/super star. Lyon has been a revelation this year but we need a long term answer in net. Maybe Cossa or Augustine will be that answer but we all know goalies take forever to develop so that’s not a short term solution. Overall I’m very happy with Yzerman’s strategy to build a deep team. When you don’t get lottery luck and big name free agents rarely change teams you have to build with depth.
