I prefer 1984 because the ending is different and Paul is a little bit sympathetic and there's fun to be had. Without needing to lead to the sequels, the "holy war" doesn't need to go beyond the planet. It just puts a bow on it and ends instead of having Paul just keeping on hammering the "I'm not a good guy" button. I think the new version, much like the book, is a very well-polished turd in that it's technically well-made but based on a set of PoVs I don't want to follow, so I don't care.
I loved the 2000 miniseries. I watched it on my sisters bed when I was 15 or so, and the Children of Dune when they came out, and it was awesome. I've watched it several times since, and read the books many times too. It's still my favorite series. The actors were expressive, and you could believe their troubles and emotions. I'm biased, but don't see the same human-ness in the new movies, they're "awe inspiring" and such, but I haven't seen the heart.
The dune miniseries also did a sequel in (2003) called children of dune in 3 parts so part 1 adapts the second novel dune messiah and parts 2 and 3 adapt the third book children of dune (2003) are you gonna check it out?
Children of Dune (2003) adapts both the second and third dune novels together to tell a story. Both dune Messiah and children of dune. Denis Villeneuve is only adapting the first 2 books but rhe dune miniseries adaots the first 3 novels ehich i wish Denis Villeneuve would do.
4: david lynchs dune: a cliff notes version of great source material that's a huge mess
3: dune miniseries a pretty good but not great version of dune
2: dune 2021: a mature adult sci Fi movie that is visually beautiful and great performances
1: dune part 2: an epic second half with immaculate production design epic action and great worldbuilding
Look at that WATCH!
I have not read the books yet, but I want to. My first exposure to this story was the 2021 movie and it's great; Part 2 is even better. I've tried 2/3 of the 1984 movie; it's just really strange and rushed.
That might be the best company that has sponsored ur channel
I had no idea about Dune until seeing it on HBO few years ago. Made it more enjoyable seeing this new world and creative peace for the first time and how great part 2 was in IMAX. Tried watching the 84’ Dune and it’s a tough watch. Interesting to see the ideas there that were in Dune pt 1 and 2.
Children of Dune is a really solid miniseries, to suffers from the same mistakes as the original, but also it kind of works, given the inherent weirdness and intrigue of the story. Hope you one day review it, Mr. Chandler. It’s definitely worth watching.
Honestly Dune Part 1 and 2 are just flat out fantastic.
3 and 4 are pretty much interchangeable atm
1. Dune miniseries
2. Dune Part 1
3. Dune Part 2
4. Dune 84
If Children of Dune could be on here, it would be #1
All of these are terrible. Paul is not an interesting character. Timothy chalagay is not a compelling actor, he is just a little nerd. Is this first book suppose to be the phantom menace? Are there more compelling stories in later books? Does anything ever happen? The worms are unneeded-they make this a joke. A cgi mess.
Dune Part 2
Dune Part 1
Dune (1984)
Villeneuve's Dune films are examples of a remake done right. It takes a weak film that had multiple limitations during the time it was made and makes it great. You do not always need to remake films that were already great and make inferior versions of them Disney!
I heard David Lynch turned down directing Return Of The Jedi to direct Dune. That’s an interesting choice.
Lynchs Dune does all the political intrigue stuff better than the other iterations. The sci fi series is most book accurate. But Villeneuves Dune is just incredible. It’s not even a question in my eyes.
Read the book my man. You’ll love it
I haven’t ever bothered with the 1984 version or SyFy series. Only after I saw Pt 2 did I become curious about the books, but never read more than a few chapters. Denis’s films are the only ones I’ve seen, and I admire the first more than I love it. Upon second watch in theaters right before Pt 2, I was surprised that I liked it more than the first time. Part 2 is a huge improvement, and even though these movies are not exactly my go-to for sci-fi/fantasy, they are the best in the genre since Jackson’s LOTR trilogy. On a story level, not as good by a long shot, but I still find the politics and motivations of everyone compelling. I’m sure we will get a Part 3.
I'm someone who found Dune very hard to follow. I didn't understand what was going at all really on but part 2 is apparently so amazing, I kinda wanna go see it. P.s. I think it's pretty guaranteed that Dune part 2 will dominate the oscars next year. It will be the new Oppenheimer
The 1984 one is still my favorite 🤷🏼♂️
Dennis Valenzuela comes through with a masterprize.
Love Hans Zimmer, but there isn't much as far as theme to hang onto. I can only remember one. More sounds than music. The 1984 soundtrack is full of earworms by ToTo
Dune needs the big budget Game of Thrones series treatment. Just too much to load into a couple of movies. And Dune is supposed to be weird, a bit too watered down for the book readers
5. Dune 84 is fun but the weakest.
4. Children of Dune
3. Dune 2000
2. Dune 2
1. Dune 2021
