This was cute. But, seeing as how the aliens were cephalopod, and multiple species of sharks, dolphins, porpoise, Orca, and sperm whales are all happy to snack on squids and octopi, I think a cool story would have our ocean dwellers turning the aliens into a buffet.☠️☠️

An adult female GWS isn't fertile until she is over 16 ft long. One of the most famous is The Lady Deep Blue. She is over 20 ft long. And is usually pregnant. She is a BIG girl! The males that can mate with her have to wait until she eats herself into a food coma. If not, she tears them to bits.
