"Successfully crashing" sounds redundant. If you're falling unto or towards something generally unmissable, a crash is generally expected to succeed. "Crashing to the ground" always succeeds, because failure to do so would be achieving orbit and is usually outside the scope of the statement.
Me any system of governance is basically will do much worse to sapient species. A volunarly statesless kind of world let alone one that is based on self interest. There is a thing called natural law and negative law rather than positivism.

@12:15 you mentioned in an Ethical Universe things like murder would be wrong, but i started thinking of it, and I would argue there are reasons murder among a species wouldn't be considered unethical or universally immoral at all. On our own planet alone, a Praying Mantis devours their mate occasionally for nourishment and certain animals will kill their young if they perceive a problem.
I think the "morals" of any given species is essentially dictated by their own evolutionary instincts for continued existence. For us, we naturally reproduce in a biological sense and we're pack animals by nature that protect each other in numbers, so we're biologically wired to grow our numbers. Thus, taking another's life feels morally wrong and violates that instinct to grow our numbers.
But what if a species reproduced from a bio-synthetic method and valued reproduction rate efficiency above all else? In other words, if they only could (reasonably) reproduce by other members of their species starting the process in a lab or some method requiring manual intervention, and their entire purpose in life was the drive to be able to reproduce other beings themselves as efficiently as possible, then it's reasonable to assume they could morally be ok with "murdering" another of their kind that wasnt efficiently reproducing as well as others could, especially in an environment with only limited resources to support the community.
Additionally if that species were to visit earth, they could mistakenly assume we follow the same set of "universal morals" as them and assume we kill off those who dont reproduce as fast as others.
TLDR; We probably shouldnt assume there actually is any "universal set of moral instincts" across alien species, because what might be horrible and appalling for us, might be necessary and mundane for someone/something else

Let's be honest, a space fairing alien civ taking "refuge" on earth , would be disastrous. They would immediately reproduce like flies and try to overtly take over the earth until we find out and they go the violent route. Why do we have to assume that aliens would be nice? The only similar thing they would have with us Is evolving in a competitive planet.

I have quite liked watching a good number of your episodes/playlists and have been astounded at the number of topics discussed… Quite enjoyed them and definitely have given me food for thought. There have been a couple topics I've not seen though and not sure if I missed them, you've avoided them as not needed to be discussed, or you've merely have not thought of them:
One is all the satellite types and satellite constellation types out there and best orbit for each and minimum numbers needed for full planetary (or moon) coverage. Just off top of head I get:

Another is an extension of asteroid mining and resources… what of dust and ring mining? Like:

– Kordylewski Clouds around Earth-Moon L4/L5 LaGrange points (possibly Mars-Moon points as well).

Isaac, when talking about what aliens want from earth you assume they have their manufacturing base intact. Or at the very least still capable of producing their technology. That may not be the case.
Aliens could have their "wikipedia/guide to all tech" on their computers but lack the actual infrastructure to manufacture any of these wonders. especially if this is not a well planned expedition but an emergency lets get the hell out of dodge situation.
What they could want is access to our manufacturing base to jumpstart them rebuilding their civilization.

The question of other intelligent life is mostly looked at through our view of how we see such intelligence and inevitable make many assumptions based on ourselves. But try to imagine such intelligence that is not only totally incomprehensible to ourselves not only in terms of their physical appearance but also of their psychological mindset, their society and customs, in essence what's also hard coded in their DNA via their own evolution. Its quite possible to such beings that there is no possibility or even the thought of violence, aggression, hatred and all the things that slow human evolution. When one considers this its more than likely they are quite terrified of us as a species. Just consider the well documented UFO phenomena in the past 50 years. We look at the technology such beings must have and assume they could destroy us with little to no effort. But in fact they maybe not have any offensive weapons or have even considered building them.

I like that you mentioned alien environmental concerns at the end there! Speaking of that, have you ever read and/or recommended the Sector General books by James White? I have watched most of your episodes I think and I'm not sure you've mentioned it. It centers around the various (mostly) emergency medical situations that show up at a multi-species, multi-environment deep space medical station called Sector General. It's got some pretty memorable stories, characters, and alien races, and the hospital itself is interesting in how it is split into various different levels to support the myriad alien races that live and work there and their respective environments. It might be fair to call it cross between ER and DS9, but predating both of those shows… anyhow, I thought it was quite entertaining and might hold some ideas for future episodes about multi-environment habitats, or co-species workplaces wherein all/most species have vastly different biologies.
I like how humans project their vile habits onto aliens and AI, without ever coming in contact with either. Meanwhile no other known creature can be as cruel as human.
