When dragonflys mate they sometimes fly around like that. Which make them look like real 8 winged flying rods.

There is nothing scary about sky fish as you call them or RODS. I HAVE COMMUNICATED With them years ago. I even was able to record the interaction. I did not know how the Government would respond so I've kept my secret for years. My Ex wife is my witness I still have the video on several CD ROMS AND HARD DRIVE. THEY CHERP AND beeper and bleep as form of communication. They are intelligent and Living life. This I know from my interactions with them. As far as I know I'm the only person who's ever heard them speak!
I say set up a camera where they're known to be seen at and then fix a piece of plexiglass that you can let them smash into and then put them under a microfine glass

As long as they don't bite me, sting me or poop on me I have no problem with them.
There was a longer documentary about these insects in a cave years ago who tried to explain what it was and why they only could find them in a small area. No one of these experts had any proper answer to what they was.
I've found infrared filming made a huge difference to my success. Also to add some extra strangeness, once I viewed rods through the view finder I was able to see them with my naked eye for a split second. Because I can watch the viewfinder from a foot away I could also see the sky at the same time with my eye after they'd flown past the screen. Three ppl did this test.

Why not set up two video cameras side by side, one set to 60i, the other set go 60p and film the same exact area then compare videos?

And what about the fact that larger specimens reach a speed of 3000 km.h, now there are records from drones where they fly 1 km in 2-3 seconds. And the most interesting thing is that at such a speed they change the trajectory by 90 degrees.
