Labor Senator Tony Sheldon says “big corporate gorillas” like Qantas Chief Executive Alan Joyce are “hoarding all the bananas” and there “has to be change” within the company.
“We’re having an airline that’s got an older fleet, they’re not re-investing, they’re turning around and doing share buybacks,” Mr Sheldon told Sky News Australia.
“They’re paying themselves executive salary increases substantially.
“As a company, it needs to have a rethink about how that company operates.”

I think they are in the right. Price of fuel has gone up 100% and is not going to come down. People in North America are looking for at least 10% more this year, to keep up. Airlines still had to maintain all the aircraft as they sat for 2 years – big costs.

Where is the "value" of commerce going? Why does everything feel so cheapened, regardless of price?
Joyce is a panhandler to the government to protect jobs and then screws his workers.
Morrison gave Qantas $3 billion during covid…..Qantas has not, and definitely will not, return one cent of that free money. I hate Qantas!
Don't use them and don't work for them no airline without staff no bonus for Joyce
Where is virgin I used to always fly with them inside of Australia 🇦🇺
This is what happens – Labor never considers the decisions business has to make to run a business. And the Jobs summit was a case in point no major employers asked to participate.
So, Labor passes the legislation. And then what major businesses do, is then work how they will configure their work force based on the laws Labor pass.
Labor don't understand – you let the Unions have all the power – they are bypassing the law courts – and everything is in the hands of thugs – who have the business has no right of redress to challenge their decisions.
So Labor don't get it – everyone will read the legislation. Then decide do they put on temporary workers – or contractors.
As they don't want the problems of dealing with someone who does not understand business.
And Labor don't think to themselves – the legislation they pass – simply destroys full time employment.
As big business was hit by Covid – they had to adjust their workforce quickly. The aviation industry is one – where things can change quickly – from fuel prices – to air corridors shut down by wars – to major public health responses to things like Covid – are require quick decision making processes. Which Unions don't like. However Labor has to figure out – do the want a national air line or not. As all other major countries governments have to fund their national air line, or they simply wont exist.
And if fuel prices remain high so does air fares.
So, Labor again misses the point completely.
They don't talk to big employers – they adopt a confrontational approach. And then wonder why no-one listens to them.
Good business policy – a perfect solution to rid the unions . Well done Joyce
We want productive and performing workforce – pay based on merit – business should not be dictated by union bandits who have no clue on how to make successful business!
Sack Him NOW !!!!
Alan Joyce is a big girls blouse
Sheldon is the former TWU boss who when Joyce was desperately trying to restructure Qantas, to save it going the way of Ansett, went out of his way to screw over Qantas and its passengers to suit the union's demands. In one case he called a strike in advance, waited for Qantas to announce the cancellations caused by the strike, then once the changes were locked in he cancelled the strike – then when people were whinging about the disruption he said it was ALL Qantas's fault because the union wasn't striking! He is the perfect example of what is wrong with the union movement, how they CAN'T be trusted IN ANY WAY, and why having Labor in power giving stooges like him a seat is so bad for Australia!
Fudgepacker prik
Looks more like a small gay leprechaun.
Little Joyce. Gigantic potty mouth.
It's real easy ….don't fly Qantas
Then see know long he lasts.
The People have the power…..
Alan would look delightful strolling the Kokoda Trail.
You need to be a big Gorilla to stand up to the Union bullies like Tony Sheldon
Despite your opinion of Qantas Chief Executive Alan Joyce he has shown outstanding dedication in keeping the symbol of Australia the Kangaroo flying around the world despite the best efforts of the Unions to thwart him
Yes I agree Joyce abused tax payer funded jobkeeper payments and then sacked his baggage handlers , absolutely deplorable person , whilst he gave himself a hefty pay increase. He's rubbish get rid of him!
All bs, labor and unions bad for ordinary Australians 🤮🐍🐍🐍🐍
lmao
