Alabama executed a convicted murderer with nitrogen gas on Thursday, putting him to death with a new method that once again put the US at the forefront of the debate over capital punishment. Officials said Kenneth Eugene Smith, was pronounced dead at 8:25pm at an Alabama prison after breathing pure nitrogen gas through a face mask to cause oxygen deprivation. It marked the first time that a new execution method has been used in the United States since lethal injection, now the most commonly used method, was introduced in 1982. The execution took about 22 minutes, and Smith appeared to remain conscious for several minutes. He was convicted in 1989 of murdering a preacher’s wife, Elizabeth Sennett, in a killing-for-hire. #executioner #deathpenalty #execution

the crime took place 35 years ago! he has changed and rehabilitated himself! he is no longer the same man, this execution has no reason to be. his crime was not the worst crime I'm sorry, I don't want to minimize a murder but it was not a child, no rape or torture and he had served 35 years in prison. it didn't deserve to die
And later the USA will preach to African presidents about humanity.. hypocrisy
2.0
Gas chambers WW2
22 minutes!!! That’s disgusting 😳
2 wrongs make a right I guess is the lesson here
Think of the female victim he brutally murdered..
The execution room looks scarier than any horror film I’ve seen
Oh no …..difficult to find out who is the human rights champion 😮
Carbon Monoxide ftw
Sword or gas????
Concentration camp comes to mind who and how many will be next 22minutes that's not right.
These are stock footage of execution rooms, and like the rest of the media ignores, he signed a waiver & more importantly, the victim.
35 years later is a joke , so basically they executed him once the system could no longer profit from him being in prison . There is a price on every bed , even judges get commission for convicting and sentencing .
👎👎👎
This is some snowpiercer lung of ice level stuff. Orwell was bang on.
What i cant get my head around is why they wait 30+ years to complete the capital punishment after somebody is convicted and sentenced to death. In the uk it costs over £75,000 a year to house a single prisoner. That cost may be hogher in the US. Surely it would be better for the stae financially to get it done and dusted quickly whilst giving some form of closure for the victims family leaving them to grieve properly knowing justice has been given.
He brutally murdered a woman and "deserved to die" then why wait 28 years to do it? That's the argument of some here.
Allowing the man the time to serve a punishment, become rehabilitated, and then assassinate him is senseless and hardly supportive of the death sentence. If anything it makes more a mockery of it as the "justice" for the victim was delayed for so long. Why put the family through 28 years of unknown torture and effectively fail to deliver on his sentence like that..?!!
His co accused's sentence was carried out 14 years earlier so zero consistency even with their own "logic".
It's clearly a challenging debate, (for some), but to take the life of a different person to the man who was convicted defeats the logic and deterrent motives of the sentence. A "life for a life", and other such narrow-minded draconian thinking really isn't a 21st century argument.
The man convulsed and struggled for 22 minutes whilst being suffocated. Hardly a nessecary part of his sentence.
If you do happen to be old fashioned enough to support a state killing a criminal then at least pass comment on the delay, and the variation in the other accuseds sentence. That's the part that makes the argument for killing the man totally worthless. 🤷♂️
What🤯
"Kenneth Smith made some bad decisions 35 yeers ago"
America world democracy 😂😂😂😂😂
That’s not humane
Revenge ≠ Justice
No one cares stop
35 years and most people are essentially different. The man went through two sentences: life in prison then execution. It is a failure of the state if they cannot carry out sentences properly or in a way that gives timely finality and closure to everyone involved. The excess cost to the taxpayer must have been huge.
Iam totally opposed to the death penalty. However, hypoxia is not a cruel way of ending a life.
Barbarism
He assassinated a woman …..that’s what you get …Khama
Wow they took tips from hitler.
This will make history.
22 minutes??? Torture absolutely not humane.
USA HOLOCOST
Monaco does not have a "royal family" you complete m0r0ns, it has a princely family you complete ignorant clowns! 🤡🤡🤡
Is this the same as suffocation ? Just wondering .
We are violent barbarians.
It is not easy for people to die like this and it is difficult and painful.
We have to recognize that no one is above the law but a process should be put in place so that people do not suffer more at the time of death.
😡😱
I wonder if he repented before he died?
✝️
Надеюсь Зеленского ждет та же судьба…
If it's known to cause almost instant death at high concentrations of Co2 inhalations, why did it take 22 mins in this case?
35 years later? So he serves all that time in jail then gets killed all over again? Wtf is wrong with the American justice system? I’m not saying he shouldn’t have paid for his crime but pick a method & stick with one. 🤷♀️ There’s no closure for the victims family or the perpetrators family in these situations. Prayers for all ❤️
35 YEARS AFTER THE CRIME?
I do not like the system there.
