  1. This is the way it should be done. You smell smoke, you land immediately, unlike that Swiss air pilot who farted around for so long that the plane burned and crashed. God bless his and the passengers souls.

  2. 98 hundred tons of fuel? Hmm. Let’s see
    A ton is roughly 2000 pounds x 9800 =
    19,600,000 pounds of fuel!
    Two points-
    1. Assuming an average fuel burn of 8,000 lbs/hr He can stay airborne for 2,450 hours!
    3. He will need a very very very long runway.

    Under duress pilots make these types of mistakes. Fumes or smoke in the cabin or cockpit or both should not be treated lightly. Get it in the ground ASAP.

  3. I was in that flight !! The issue was due to some spark in the power box in a row of economy class seats. I was in business class so did notice any smell !!
