At the planet that uses aluminum for currency, you have the option to purchase one of their gliders. I wonder if that might be the way you can bypass the flak system on that Cathedral world?
When you are on the ship design screen, hit new ship and choose an explorer. Your still using the scout which is restricted in slots.

Would Charlie be upset if I told him it's possible to set the gun turrets to autoshoot? Not sure of the specfics myself, but I heard pressing "g" allows auto targeting and firing

In the settings you can adjust how long the notifications stay on screen so you have time to read them out
You are just about at the limit of the size of your scout. If you hit the new ship button in the shipyard, you can choose a larger class of ship if you have the resources. It will give you a larger bridge with a larger size limit.
exploring asteroid belts… taking the long route to places.. DOES YIELD!!! You'll find hidden things, random items, resources… its a GOOD move to do! 😀
