Last week showed these animals and asked you guys to guess the ages of each for a chance to win a Matson’s Lab gift card. Today, Randy Newberg will break down the ages of those critters! You should have received an email if you were randomly selected.
Thanks to all those who participated, and be sure to check out Matson’s Lab here! https://matsonslab.com/

Interesting- I have always thought- spike (1), forky(2), 3 point (3) and so on – but that amazing to see a big bull elk that's a 5 point that's 3..🤯
Interesting video/videos. I shot a 4 point and had it euro'd and the taxidermist it was one of the oldest deer he's ever seen. It wasn't big so probably on the way down Kinda wish I would checked the teeth
I had guessed 3,3,3,8,6 they were 6,3,3,5,3 well that was fun. lets play again sometime
cool video i shot couple of young deer in 2021 and in 2022 the second one was an old or mid age doe but it was good to look at the body of it keep up the work
We had a 13.5yo pronghorn buck in one of my hunt areas a couple years ago.
I usually don’t shoot them until they have no teeth left then I know they are big enough yo shoot🤔😳😂
Went 3/5. Missed pronghorn by a year and last bull by a year. In my defense, I just went off the thumbnail pics at the beginning and called the last bull a 2yo. 😆Fun video!!!
Interesting
Great video, you should do more of these!
I guessed 63243, almost but not quite lol looks like no one was right tho.
Missed A by a year, I guessed 5 yrs old. B & C I got lucky and guessed correctly that they were 3-1/2, D I guessed 4, E I guessed 3 yrs old. So, I need work.
As a European hunter the only ones I got right were the pronghorn and last elk.
With elk I have some experience, as they are similar enough to red deer, to make the same kinds of age tells applicable.Â
And where I hunt you always have to age your game on the hoof, as you are only allowed to shoot certain age groups, with rather hefty fines for shooting too young (and too strong trophy) or too old animals (because those are the most limited age tags, with the rule generally being "old tags can be filled with younger animals, but not the other way around").Â
In case of red deer that for instance means, a stag has to be over 10 to be harvested, if it is a strong trophy (everything with more than 3 tines above its middle tine on both sides of the antler. Which would come out as a 6×6 or in some special cases also a 5×5). With most hoofed animals having at least 3-4 distinct age groups for tags. With the cut-offs being: roe deer 0-1-5+ years, red deer 0-1-5-10+ years, chamois females 0-1-3-11+, males 0-1-3-8+ years. So a trophy roe has to be over 5 years, a trophy stag over 10, a trophy female chamois over 11, and a trophy male chamois over 8 years old.
It gets rather stressful to age them at times.
I do not believe the 2nd mule deer is 3.
Randy what's the difference between onx and go hunt?
By the way how's your hand doing?
Cool stuff! 😀
I got jaces and Randy’s correct and flunked all the other ones by at least 2 years lol
I liked this type of video series I think it’s cool to see how old these animals are. I’ve seen on the ndow website here in Nevada some mule deer that were takin over 10 years old. I once met a guy that says a deer will never live more than 9 in the wild
Well… I got animal C right haha
I'd like to see the age of black bears taken. Randy…… Hint Hint
This was really educational and addicting I think I want to age all my harvest from now on. Thanks for sharing
Is it me or are the horns on the antelope euro you pick up on backwards?? Something sure looks off on it??
I never saw the other video. But guessing on the fly with this one I was the same as Randy until Uncles bull I was bang on and I wasn’t able to do Randy’s bull. Good video.
Thanks Randy. Cool info.
The back and belly sag on Larry's bull screams that age class. I wish I watched the original video earlier I l, surprisingly, got them all
Hey Randy I only got one right very interesting. Did you're uncle Larry's AZ elk hunt ever air yet I am real sorry if I missed that episode
The half year thing drives me CRAZY! Everything is half! They are all born in the spring and besides bear and turkey are killed in the fall hunting season unless you’re a poacher. I don’t say my 12 yr old daughter is a 1/2 anything. Just aggravating lol
