  1. I wouldn't call this overexplained but since the games been out for a while there's less need for you to babysit us with basic mechanics. Just talk us through the 'why I'm making this decision' stuff and the sort of strategies you're aiming for when you do when it matters imo. Maybe I just like your standard format more than this sort of tutorial style series.

    PS: Heroes can create outposts but so can outrider units, just at twice the cost, you said that in your first video but it's not right.

  2. I really liked this! My favorite part was seeing you choose an affinity that you ranked kind of low on the tome tier list. Generally, I think it's pretty obvious how to play well with things that are good, so seeing you tackle something that seemed underpowered was way more interesting to me. It even looked liek you were surprised at one point with just how fun shadow could be too! So with that being said, surely materia next? 😀

  3. Plenty of things you didn't explain, past the episode 1. If it were to work as a tutorial you watch as the first thing, it would be good to know for example what victory conditions there are, how to defeat an enemy, what diplomacy is there, what's the broad vibe of each affinity, etc. And even for things you do, you just assume people know them – like you start having naval combats and just don't say anything about it, dig underground without acknowledging it, etc.

  4. Loved this series, my first victory in this game was the Order magic victory.
    The only things I'd like to see is more diplomacy and more wars between real factions. This game was very turtle-strat, which works perfectly for this build, but like you said, the enemy could never really touch you.

  5. Can you avoid skipping animations of racial transformations, both minor and major? They are pretty cool and don't take a long time. It feels disappointing when you cast them and exit the menu without looking.

  8. Yeah this being your first overexplained for this game kinda shows. I’d do future ones on Brutal, like how you do Civ Overexplained on Deity. When you have to make harder choices, it allows you to talk about more of the things you’re considering. It also lets you talk more about the high level strats that you need to win on Brutal, instead of being able to just sit back and do your thing, like you were able to do here.

    I think some big things to talk about in a future Overexplained might be stuff like when to attack another player, what army comps to build and why, why this specific Tome is best for your build, why you want to be pretty focused with what Tomes you get(like how you didn’t pick up any Order Tomes in this game), when to break your rule of thumb on the 3-3-3 province improvements, when and where to settle/integrate/absorb vs. vassalizing, evaluating settlement locations.

  9. As an absolute evil empire, you can collect corpses of your subject heroes by repeatedly declaring war and turning them into vassals again. The higher tier your vassal is (level of city center), the better equipped their heroes will be. Alternatively, you can also convert souls into Imperium by razing a city, animating it, releasing it as a vassal (which will reward you with 100 Imperium) and then declaring war to raze it once more. You will also collect a hero corpse each time and in combination with the chaos empire development perk "Spoils of Destruction", you will also permanently increase your gold income by 20.

    It’ll probably be a while before I can pick up the game, so watching these will be it until I do. Because of that,I’d like each video to be as different as possible from the others. So as much as possible: different cultures, realms, tomes, and victory conditions for each.

  11. The one thing which makes the final dark tome stronger than any other tome is the hero perk it unlocks. The perk is a warfare master perk which makes your heroes resurrect themselves after 3 turns, as long as any other friendly units are still alive. By itself it's not completely broken, but if you have armies consisting entirely of immortal heroes it kind of breaks the game, even more so if some of those heroes also are berserkers, which can be a random hero perk for barbarian heroes, is available as an item and can be available by default for your ruler with the barbarian pantheon perk.

  12. The series was good but I wish you explained more synergy between buildings. For example at 29:35 you just mentioned what buildings you wanted but didn’t explain why. For the spells, tomes, units, and equipment/hero stuff you were fantastic. I think the only thing you were missing was building synergy. Other than that great job! Love seeing you try out new builds and factions you aren’t excited about in the beginning (from your tier list).

Casting the "Age of X" spells are pretty fun, and while most of the other AI declare war on you, often if you have an ally they'll remain your ally, particularly if you have shared ally victory on. But occasionally something really fun happens. Sometimes an AI immediately wants to become your friend when you cast the spell, even if you were at war with them. I've had an AI on the other side of the Map that absolutely hated me from the start, and which I was engaged in a war with suddenly sue for peace, the turn after asking for a mage bond, and then if you agree, each turn ask for the next step on the way to become your ally, each time you agree, asking for the next step the turn after. So I once ended up with all of the remaining AI save one becoming my allies from a previous 50/50 split, lol.

  15. The end of a AoW4 game seems pretty much like a standard Civ6 game, where you feel like: Yawn, I wish it were over so I can start a new game. Just waiting for an enemy to attack, or till the Age of Something starts/Spaceship reaches the planet. As for the game, I really like that you can combine different characteristics for a race. I really liked the undead kittens and I hope you will show us some other cool combo's, for instance with orcs or tree hugging elves.

  16. I'd like to see an AoW4 version of your Civ6 settler tutorial video. Where should I found new cities? How close to other cities can the new cities be without cramping growth? What merits an outpost over a full city, and when should I go over the city cap, etc.

  17. TBH. the over-explaining was mostly at the start, since you had to explain basic game mechanics. It became less explainy as the game went on, for obvious reasons. Personally, I'd love to see more battles 😀 Maybe using one of the default factions/heroes too

  18. Great series, I think it would be nice to see a bit more of diplomacy and the nuances of managing alliances when other rulers have positive or negative relations to each other. I've had some great success with alliances laying low and taking advantage of asymmetrical trade. I'm also curious about expansion victory. I feel like magic victory feels a bit like playing solitaire.

  19. I really enjoyed your overexplained series on civ 6, but this one doesn't feel overexplained that much. I'm not sure you fully explained exactly what bosting a building does or how each hero abilities work. You mentioned you'd explain the rally of lieges but ended up not doing it. I'm still not sure what generate imperium and what it does. When do you get to pick those "perks" in the "skill trees"? How are they affected by your affinity? What exactly does a vassal do? How does diplomacy work? And I could go on…

    Still enjoyed watching it. It seems to be a very good game. But I don't feel this serie really overexplained much.

  21. I loved the overexplained series. My suggestion is: I would like you to play at a higher difficulty and play out some fights with level 3, 4 or 5 units. I really enjoy how you explain your moves in combat.
