Lillian, a 48-year-old woman, found herself stranded in the dense forest of Australia’s Mitta Mitta bushland after taking a wrong turn on her way to Bright for a holiday. With no mobile coverage and only a few snacks and lollies, Lillian had to survive for five days until she was rescued by the Victoria Police.
The surveillance footage tweeted by the police shows Lillian waving her hands frantically in the middle of the dense forest. Fortunately, the Air Wing of the Victoria Police spotted her car during a sweep of the hilly terrain and was able to rescue her.
According to Wodonga police station sergeant Martin Torpey, Lillian had only taken a couple of snacks and lollies with her but no water. The only liquid she had was a bottle of wine she had bought as a gift for her mother. Despite her not being a drinker, the wine was what got her through the ordeal.
Thanks to Lillian’s common sense to stay with her car and not wander off into the bushland, the police were able to find her. However, Lillian had to be hospitalized to be treated for dehydration.
This incident is a reminder that no matter how short a trip may be, it is always important to be prepared. Carrying enough water and food supplies and keeping a charged mobile phone can make a huge difference in case of an emergency.
