I was on welfare, food stamps, and living in the projects. I didn't want to be on assistance for the rest of my life. I became a CNA, got off welfare (still on foodstamps), and then went to a community college. I became an LPN, and then got myself/children out of the projects. One of my happiest and proudest moments after i graduated from the LPN program was going to the foodstamps office and telling them that I don't need their assistance anymore. I was finally completely off assistance. They were so happy for me. Hard work pays off. I now have a house. I changed careers and became an over the road truck driver teaming with my husband. If I can do it anyone can do it.
