Aeroflot Buys Boeing 777s

Aeroflot has announced that it has purchased 10 Boeing 777s from an Irish lessor. It comes as they try to rebuild their network, which has been severely damaged due to sanctions. This is the second time the airline has purchased aircraft. Last year announcing, eight additional Airbus A330s joined the fleet.

2023 will be an essential year for Aeroflot as they note they want to rebuild their international network. However, this is a touchy area given the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which will largely determine the future outlook for Aeroflot.

  1. I think today it's a high risk contract and the problem is not Aeroflot itself, it is Putin, since all it needs is a word from him and all the planes will be grounded… …in Russia…

  2. I don't see a problem here. The planes were already stranded in Russia, so the lessor was able to sell them and recover their money. They had no reasonable hope of recovering the aircraft otherwise.

  3. Yesterday I gave my comment and apparently some misinformed person attacked my comment and even my social media.

NO PLANES were bought or sold. Russia basically stole all 'western' property that was in Russia during the time the sanctions were put in the place. Companies such as Boeing, Airbus, IKEA, UPM/Fortum(Finnish energy companies that basically owned and operated most important electricity and heating plants in Russia and tried to keep the lights on in Russia) and multiple others lost ALL their assets in a blink of an eye. The current estimation is that US and European companies lost around 180 trillion dollars.

The transaction mentioned in this video is about one Irish company trying to get some money back from their stolen airplanes – what I found today on 5.1.23 is the following: 'The planes are now to be considered owned by the Russian flag carrier and will no longer be returned, although it is unclear how the purchase agreement came about.'

While I do know this channel is about aircraft industry I would hope that the kind of misinformation won't be seen again on this channel. Australia might be far from Europe and the US but the implications and realities will eventually touch everyone on this planet.

Edit: you refer to Russian news agencies and imply Boeing or Airbus would make sales with Russia. Spreading misinformation on YouTube is not allowed.

  4. I dont get it, arent Russian companies affected by sanctions? How is aeroflot buying 'foreign' planes and even planning to expand its network?

  5. First of all terms need to be right, it’snot a conflict it’s a brutal russian invasion of Ukraine. Second of all sanctions on Avalon for doing business with companies under sanctions.

  6. It was the only possible way for the lessors to recover their losses since Russia already nationalized those aircraft making the recovery of those aircraft impossible.
