Academic Festival Overture | China Philharmonic Orchestra

Academic Festival Overture

Composer: Johannes Brahms
Conductor: Zhang Jiemin
Orchestra: China Philharmonic Orchestra

The Academic Festival Overture was Brahms’ tribute to the University of Breslau, which had notified him that it would award him an honorary doctorate in philosophy. The composer delicately balances the light-hearted nature of the piece with the seriousness of the symphonic music, combining the “academic” and “festive” styles. The song also features an ingenious melodic adaptation.

As the New Year rings in 2023, the China Philharmonic Orchestra would like to thank each and every one of you who has accompanied us through another year. We hope that you will continue to witness every new achievement of the CPO in its orchestral journey in the New Year!
