Australian Automotive Dealer Association CEO James Voortman says the AADA is “really concerned” about the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard set to apply from 2025.
The federal government revealed it will set standards for manufacturers on fuel consumption and carbon emissions for new cars sold in Australia, with a target of a 60 per cent emissions reduction by 2030.
“We’ve been on record saying that we believe the government’s proposal goes too far, too fast,” Mr Voortman told Sky News Australia.
“We’re really concerned … trying to reduce the emissions of our entire fleet by 60 per cent over a period of five years goes beyond what other countries have done.”
He said this risks Australia compromising affordability and its choice of vehicles.

Albo and co pushing everything anti Australian..
Who are they working for?
Lot of money to be made in those renewables grants and subsidies and its the citizens who will pay
This has nothing to do with cost savings and everything to do with controlling our lives and what we can and can't buy…
Sky Israel latest WEF Advertisement.
Go to a nationals electorate and practice what you preach Bowen!
Why, oh why, do they keep calling importers "manufacturers"? There are no vehicle manufacturers in Australia.
Will they be cracking down on ev battery fires? Theres some emissions there.
WANKAs.
What kind of Energy is needed to be generated to simultaneously recharged a national fleet of Tesla EV Semi Trailers alone???
Simple answer, Australia doesn't currently possess that capability
Fuel efficient and cheap to maintain is what we need and less government interference in our lives
Even Toyota are "'really concerned' about New Vehicle Efficiency Standard"
due to recently being caught fudging the numbers by using tricky software to defeat the emissions test just like VWs diesel-gate.
Now there is talk of Toyota halting sales to Australia.
More expensive?
Saw Ford Raptor utes at just under 100k a while back.
Oh well at least it means my 4wd will hold it's value even better than it already is.
I had a Honda in the 80's that did 50 miles per gallon = 5.3 litres per 100km.
That's the same fuel use as hybrids today.
Older cars being kept, reduce emissions from manufacturing new cars.
Singapore has a fantastic mass rapid transport system , and the country is the same size as Sydney.
Australia is unique in this world due to its massive size and its small population. Therefore we need unique solutions.
Stop following Europe and do what's best for our unique country.
Time to start converting the garage into a stable.
Just another ALP move to keep destroying Australia.
We dont fucken care 😂😂😂
Good luck to the Australians that can afford a new car!
The Australian people have never consented to ANY unelected international foreign entities, in which the LAW states they MUST have according to OUR Commonwealth constitution. So ALL this chit MUST be the ‘ corporate ‘ side of OZ, in which IS SEPERATE from the people, as stated in the ‘ fictional’ corporate Commonwealth constitution, YET the same people are Controlling BOTH !!
TIC TOC
Wrong again sky, the yanks have had emission controls for decades as has Europe, Switzerland, basically everywhere except Australia and parts of Russia..your actually disputing and addressing data with a car dealer, I think you could find ,let's say ,some one who actually talks about the science behind the policy and not the need to sell cars.this policy will come into affect with the grandfathering of cars already here, the emissions control is standard around the globe…more alarmist bullsh.t from the propaganda network at Sky
All new cars should be hybrid, diesel, or EV.
Old cars are already accounted for and PAID their dues at point of original sale.
If you change that and make them pay again, why should I trust the tax/subsidy that is slapped on the new cars?
Huh?
Your logic is questionable, even a 5 year old child would have made a better presentation.
The same logic would apply to people that rent homes, to fix the problem force them to buy a home and the rental crisis will be eliminated.
