I believe Chrono Clash is the precursor to the Digimon tcg and is basically just the person who designed Duel Masters insisting that the 5 shield system is good actually, while also pushing the Digimon mana system, which is actually quite good. They basically just incorporate different IPs into their game, like a Weiss/Schwarz.
