A Symphony of Survival: Remembering the Vocal Orchestra, 14 June 2024, Shrine of Remembrance

On 14 June 2024, at the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne, the KeyTones Choir performed pieces sung originally by a vocal orchestra in a women’s internment camp in Sumatra during the Second World War. Without any instruments, the women of the camp relied on their voices to create music to lift the spirits of the internees and distract them from the dire conditions they endured.
