On April 28th, THREE new DLCs will be releasing for Surviving Mars, including a music pack, a skin pack, and TRAINS!! The last of these will significantly change up the game by making resource points more accessible than before with far, far less infrastructure!

  1. I would love to play with the trains, but unfortunately my laptop's processing power is too low to play the base game properly. I'll be in agony until I can replace my laptop with a better one.

  2. Hype! Shame you probably already have your real gameplay colony going. If not. Minmaxed can get boring. I would love to see instead of like max difficulty? Set everything as random as you can go. No idea of techs. Zero map starting knowledge. As much out of your control as can get.

  3. That Train dlc is a godsend. Makes for a much more dynamic build instead of trying to build most of our funding dome close to a rare metal extractor. This makes for much better beauty build.

  4. This is actually huge for not just workers, but logistics as a whole.
    – Train stations mean being able to efficiently make storage depot hubs without straining shuttle demand or daisy-chaining drone hubs (expensive!).
    – You can de-cluster out of dome buildings from the footprint of your domes.
    – You no longer need shuttles/drone linking to bootstrap new remote expansions
    – It appears to be able to transport O2 and water. +Oxygen farm crops suddenly useful and a possible end to moxxies? The ability to store reserve water/o2 network wide (which is a huge draw for large storage solutions)
    – Allows you to more efficiently transport bulk goods like terraform farms/seeds without taking a lot of drone/shuttle time.
    – train tracks are fairly narrow targets for meteors (tornados are a concern), but can quickly be patched up with those nearly defunct RC commander vehicles.

  5. I bought this game after watching a playthrough of yours when it went on sale, though I haven't started a game quite yet. But from watching that series of Below and Beyond, I have to agree that the trains look like a major logistics game-changer. Shuttles may be faster point-to-point transport, but they have a number of drawbacks and I think you often had trouble with them transporting the materials where you wanted, when you wanted. With the trains/trams, you can set up concrete supply lines of goods and people between locations, and as mentioned, have a wider reach on resource deposits.

  6. The only thing I think could be improved on is to integrate the train tracks to the existing cabling and pipe networks. Like an improved pipe that also serve as train tracks. Or the ability to run the power cables under the tracks like you would with the live support pipes.

  7. Well… it's Cool, but also kinda "meh".
The only hope now is Silva won't sell_to_Paradox/remove his "passage hub" Mod as it is a direct opponent for trains in terms of "workers logistics".

  8. I’ve seen a lot of praise and concern for this trains update. But I can’t find anybody else asking a question that I have. Is it possible to build train tracks going up or down hill? Because what if you want to utilize the peaks and valleys of your map?

  9. The trains look so cool and useful, but I'm going to wait before purchasing that DLC. Even at ~$4 on the cheap sites it's way too much for something so restrictive and unrefined. Plus, it has a "Mostly Negative" review score on Steam, so I'm not going anywhere near it until it makes sense to purchase it. I think Paradox is a decent company and they could have the developer patch such a blatantly-bad product.
