During late summer, team member Danny Naugle planted a hidey hole food plot with Green Cover Seed in a small opening in the timber. Danny set up a Moultrie Mobile Edge to monitor the plot and once the crop germinated, Danny began receiving a lot of pictures of deer feeding!
Danny knew from summer scouting that there were a lot of white oaks around the hidey hole that had developed acorns. Once deer season opened, the attractive hidey hole forage paired with the first white oak acorns on the ground became a hot spot for deer activity. Not only that, deer were feeding there during daylight!
When the conditions allowed, Danny slipped into the timber midday and looked for fresh deer sign. Based on his observations, Danny hung a stand on the edge of the hidey hole and next to several large white oaks dropping acorns. This placed Danny between two food sources. A few hours later, Danny was in the stand when a big doe walked into range. The Dead Meat broadhead hit the mark and the doe didn’t go far. After the first hunt of the season, Danny had fresh venison to take home to his family!
Danny’s success boiled down to good scouting and hunting techniques. During this video we break down Danny’s hunt and explain how he prepared and executed for this successful hang and hunt!

The best days are still ahead of us!
This gets us pumped for the season! Great video guys! Keep getting after it!
Here in Missouri it’s been extremely dry is it too late to put some cereal rye down
Congrats Danny!!! Awesome work and great content!
Congrats Danny! Great video! This is what happened to me this weekend. I was sitting in a white oak tree and had them all around me. Unfortunately 2 mature bucks came in along with 3 others and fed on White oaks 60 yards away and even spared. There was 3 other bucks with them and the only one that came under me was a spike buck. It was a great hunt even though I didn't harvest a buck.
Great hunt! Resembles similar activity to what I’ve been seeing in central OH. Plus, I love a good doe hunt!
Great video!
Love the channel
You guys know a lot about deer, but here’s a question you’ve probably never been asked. Do you think the majority of hunters are fat guys or guys that are in good shape? It surprises me at the number of fat guys I see in these videos. Hunting requires a lot of work and exercise, so it makes me wonder why so many of these guys are so out of shape.
