  1. Honestly, these Aliens have to be just blindingly incompetent. With the weapons and technology they have Humanity should have stood approximately 0% chance of surviving… Quill could sterilize the planet multiple times over with the arsenal he has and the aliens are beating him.

  2. Round at pub quiz tonight was all about the planets. One question was which planet is "on average" closest to earth. I got it right with "Mosest closest" mercury πŸ˜‚. The others were saying Venus. I've heard it so many times from somebody, I wonder who

  3. Does the reinforcements mechanic only care about the raw numbers of ships? Because spamming out a couple thousand incredibly cheap ships would tilt that number in the player's favor easily. Otherwise, it might be easy enough (though it would take time) to just build up an even more overwhelming force. The economic engine which produced this fleet is still running, right? It could make more ships while this fleet is bottled up.

  4. The problem with the torpedo ships is that torpedoes just aren't good in mass combat, because the aliens will have plenty of point defense. Your first big "retreating" fight with lots of big laser ships was a much better way to eliminate a big alien fleet! But you are right that the way the reinforcements work really makes absolutely no sense at all, and makes torpedoes even worse than they would already be.

  5. To exploit the reinforcement system, split off enough ships and set the battle size so you can field your whole fleet, but they need to reinforce. If they still manage to win, then start another fight with a second fleet from your leftover ships.

  6. The reinforcements thing is a definite area for the developers to work on.
Keep up fighting the good fight.
Yeah that sucks with the crash .
Don’t start at 0 start at 25 kps. Just slowly floating forward in an irresistible wall of death.

  7. FYI, if you hit the V key while in combat it will turn off the vector lines. For some reason those cause a ton of lag.

Also, for these really large battles the testudo tactic is best. Very low initial velocity and let the enemy come to you. Then I group the ships along the edges and padlock them to the flanking ships as needed. It's slower but far less chaotic.

  8. 2:25:00 The problem with the Honor Harrington series is that David Weber gained Immunity to Editors somewhere around In Enemy Hands, and all of his books since then have been just unreadable. When the author elbows his way onstage, literally in the middle of a dialogue scene, for 11 solid pages (I counted!) of background exposition, it's a sign that his editors need to start doing their jobs again.
