Glad to see you again so soon
this popped in my notifications just as I was reading Brandon Sanderson‘s Warbreaker (my first BS read ever) and discovering my love for high fantasy??? thank you for your contribution 🫡 i will be getting ideas for my next reads 👀
In terms of classic fantasy one name that really jumps out to me is Lud I the Mist by Hope Mirrlees, which I think pre-dates Lord of the Rings
Robin Hobb Realm of the Elderlings is fantastic. Please read them all in order and get ready to have your heart broken for life. All the separate trilogies are connected you will have a fabulous time. It is a slow read but the character and world building is second to none. I read them all 3 years ago and would love to reread at some point
I finished all 16 of robin hobbs books last years. It took me a few years to finish them all. Recommend them all, but some are better as others like any series. Mad ship series was my favorite.
I legit squealed at the thought of another bookshelf organisation video – your last one is probably my most rewatched video ✨ever✨
Emma lifts the mug: Harry Styles?! Would never think Emma…
I promise this mug was a gift: okay, that makes way more sense 😂
Nothing brings as much joy as opening youtube and find emma has posted 😪
Sarah J Maas has a pronunciation guide on her website for character and place names! Also I wouldn’t read assassin’s blade until at least after crown of midnight, major spoilers if not
I read my first Sanderson last year, it was Elantris which is one of his stand alones and part of the cosmere. I thought it was a great place to start and I'll be reading the mistborn series later this year (hopefully)
Simon Haissel’s Wolf Crawl book club hosted on substack (a year long slow read of the trilogy) is amazing.
very happy to see you're getting into robin hobb and building up to all that PAIN
i just got into reading fantasy and seeing my favorite booktuber post this made me GASP 😂🩷 love your content so very much, you’ve made quite the impact on me!
J’adore tes vidéos du livres. ❤
Made my day, like your any upload ever does & ever will !
Oooo, I love Fahrenheit, Ray Bradbury is such a poetic writer. I recommend his short stories if you want a taste of how he writes. Some of them are “There will come Rain”, “The Veldt”, “All Summer in a Day”. A lot of these you can find for free as pdfs.
Loved this video Emma! Have you read The Queens Royal Covern trilogy ? I would be interested in your thoughts if you have. I'd love to know your thoughts on the Fourth Wing, now trilogy also. ❤
The poppy war is brilliant! Excited to hear your thoughts about it 😊
4:46 I mean yes! There's a long tradition of British fantasy. The most famous is probably the Gormenghast trilogy featuring a massive labyrinthine castle . Titus Groan the first book was published in 1946, 8 years before Lord of the Rings but after the Hobbit.
Lud in the Mist by Hope Mirrlees was published in 1926 and takes place in a secondary world making it an early example of that type. Lord Dunsany around the same time wrote fantasy novels that had the beginnings of what we would now consider high fantasy.
Even earlier in the late 1800s there was a revival of Medieval inspired stories, with princes rescuing princesses and lots of knights and evil sorcerers.
None of these are Tolkien or Lewis of course, but they definitely came from a growing tradition. Although interestingly, in the case of Mirrlees and Dunsany the reason we still remember them is because they were reprinted in the 60s partly because of the success of Lord of the Rings.
So glad you have started reading Robin Hobb's books. In my opinion all the books keep getting better after the first trilogy. It did take a little dip with the 4 dragon books, but the world and characters are amazing. She builds on the world and characters slowly with each book, it's just so good. The books that follow Fitz also have really good audiobooks. Lots of libraries in England have them. Hope you enjoy!
read assassin's blade after crown of midnight (aka third)!!!!! I will die on this hill.
I relate with the pile on the floor thing but I don't wanna. 🥲
😂😂❤
