Sky News host Steve Price has condemned the “new low” in the war against Australia Day after Captain James Cook’s statue in Melbourne was cut off its stone base.
“Using an angle grinder ,the bronze statue of Cook was destroyed, cut at the ankles, leaving just Cook’s statue’s feet or boots,” Mr Price said.
“Vandalism – no, worse – a statement that these people are prepared to commit criminal damage to further their crazy march to an anti-Australian movement.
“What I want to know is why, even though police were contacted while this criminal act was underway, that police the couldn’t get there even though this disgraceful act would have taken at least 15 minutes to commit.
“The St Kilda police station is three kilometers away. Under lights and siren at worst, it’d be an eight to ten minute drive, probably quicker – why didn’t police respond more quickly?”

Can someone please tell me what Captain Cook has to do with Australia Day. He was sent after his original mission to observe the transit of Venus to see if he could find the fabled great south land. He basically bumped into the east coast and began charting it. He made landfall in Botany Bay and planted the flag then left. By the time the First Fleet arrived he had been dead for 9 years. Scum that do this are nothing but uneducated dullards. My view is if they are in receipt of Centrelink benefits then they can lose them. No more free ride on the taxpayer.

I doubt the Police will be putting too much effort into tracking down the vandals, however, if the shoe was on the other foot and vandals destroyed Aboriginal art and cave art the powers to be would be assigning a special police task group to track down the culprits. Then there would be a National Day of Mourning further on down the track.

I'm British and I find all this weird. Lots of white Australians call it invasion day, they protest, they want the memory of the whites arriving in 1788 to be condemned, and are happy to disenfranchise themselves. I can only assume that they want themselves to be deported. Where do they hope to be deported to?
