  12. Theory: How do we know that hive fleets are connected to a singular hive mind ?

    It doesn't make sense that every hive fleet has a different colour unless they're suggesting that, in reality, there are multiple different hive minds that are connected to their very own fleet, like if you see an ant you know its an ant but the if you see lets say a yellow and red ant you know they're ants but are biologically different and all respond to a different authority ie queens or something like that and can go to war against eachother but some ants would rather cooperate than fight.

    Or another example when it comes to the different colouring, it doesn't make sense that China and the U.S.
    They have the same camouflages for their armed forces because that would cause confusion, and its just different design priciples.

    Conclusion :What im trying to say is they might be a collective of hive minds and not just a singular one.

    Hope you guys got some lore to suggest otherwise. Because this has been keeping me up.

    PS, wouldn't an all-knowing hive mind that is connected to every single tyranid be smart enough to know its own troops from one another, thus not requiring all these different colours that are not really camouflage but rather a mark of distinction ?

    Edit: To prove my point further, it's bassically useless for different coloured tyranids because they're all in their own sector. All are doing a specific objective and are all allegedly from the same entity that bore them/commissioned them to be made.

  20. I don't understand why anyone sees "plotholes". The ones you describe require as many assumptions or more than if you just accept the Tyranid and Genestealer behavior as complicated. Tyranids don't have perfect intelligence or synapse communication, no rival fleet is required to justify any of genestealer actions like destroying the transport or escaping the way they did. That just makes everything more complicated and convoluted, why should Tyranids/genestealers be pigeonholed into these imaginary problems? Fun to play with the ideas but the idea there "plotholes" seems inane to me.

  22. I don't think it would be contradictory even if it was from the same hive fleet. Genestealer cults welcome the coming of their God, but also seek to flee it. This isn't a contradiction in their nature, it simply serves an evolutionary purpose. Think about the craziness following space ships fleeing such an invasion. What better way to slip Genestealers onto a ship bound for worlds rich with life? Their drive to escape suits the purposes of the hive fleet as they sew more confusion and instability and infect new worlds without the need to send scout ships. It makes perfect sense they would act this way, fighting tooth and nail to survive and escape. And it makes perfect sense they would want to revolt and sabotage the defenders. I imagine once the cult realize there is no chance for esape, then and only then do they welcome the loving embrace of their many limed god.

  25. Tyranids have been known to fight each other both as individuals of especially larger intellegent and psychically powerful bioforms breaking free of the Hives' will suddenly during a siege, and as more widespread infighting between Hives fleets.
    There are outcasts also. Ymgarl Genestealers are abnormalities the Hivemind will not reabsorb but refuse and instead these may escape to stay ahead of the Tyranid fleet. These aren't Ymgarl though as the baby looks like a normal Purestrain and doesn't have the tentacle mouth.

    Genestealer cult leaders are known in lore today to escape the planet early to avoid being consumed by the Tyranid fleet (I think?), whether this is because they have a sudden change of heart once their saviors show their cards or because Genesteler preservation and propagation drive is stronger than obedience. Perhaps a Patriarch, while instinctually acting as a beacon for other Tyranids to come there and invade, is also strong enough psychically to retain or wrest back autonomy from the Hivemind as reabsorbtion becomes imminent?

    Why the family and other human-looking Neophyte hybrids in this story are shipped out on the last shuttle so late is perhaps due to the Guard blocking access to transport, that an already embattled fleet in orbit can't receive refugees while fighting for their lives or the Administratum delaying everything for just red tape reasons.
    We don't know also, perhaps the planet is slated for Exterminatus and so ships aren't allowed to leave. But exceptions may still be made, last minute, for top administratum officials and clergy.
    We also don't know if their escape succeeds, perhaps the shuttle is met by an Inquisitorial retinue, exposed and eradicated on landing. Or the shuttle simply getting shot to pieces nearing an Imperial warship.

    I did find it odd that the Lictor sees them and just moves on, I took that as something being off with the group.
    Then after the reveal at the end I thought this was because they were kindred to it. Possibly what we see isn't a Lictor but something else, a Genestealer Metamorph that has some similar traits to a Lictor (it can have the scythe arm of one and though not known so far perhaps also the chameleon ability) but belonging to the same brood watching over them.
    We barely see it after all.

  29. Makes a lot of sense given how they kept mentioning, "New Life" despite the already existing Tyranid life overtaking the world on top of how devious the planning was to escape. All will converge to a ship whose importance will overshadow the likelihood of being shot down, and with that importance, the garments will allow them to hide their Tyrannic features better as Imperial citizens don't really look at the faces of priests and if they do, the hoods will cover what shan't be seen. Even the syringes are a nice touch to convert the suspicious and uninitiated with the fluids of the gene cult. Lotta good lore bits covered

  30. While I agree with your new idea on the hive fleet rivalry once you identified the colors- Did you notice though the baby genestealer’s colors also seem to be Hive Fleet Hydras? Unless I’m missing details there.

From what ive read about genestealer cults the riots and attempts to flea are part of their over all actions when a hive fleet arives in general as a way to weaken the olanets for the hive fleet but those that have a purestrain young always try to flee because it is ingrained in their dna to flee from the hive to seed new worlds , the only exceptions being the ymgarl strain and the malstrain of necromunda
