A Madden NFL 2004 Oakland Raiders Rebuild // Year 5

Welcome to the first video of this rebuild. I will take hold of the Oakland Raiders in Madden NFL 2004 and do my best to get 3 consecutive winning seasons, or 3 playoff appearances in 5 years, or a Superbowl Appearance. Only then, will the rebuild be complete. So follow along on the journey as I try to be successful, in as short of a time period, as possible.

  1. Observations:
    1. With Al Davis still alive, no way Gruden comes back and you were right to not sign him.
    2. Agreed that Mike Holmgren was done dirty in this franchise by the CPU.
    3. Marty Schottenheimer would NEVER coach for Al Davis. Look up the article "Marty On Why Al Davis, Raiders Annoyed The Hell Out Of Him" Good read.
    4. I am glad that you at least did your research about the legendary DC Jim Johnson (RIP never forget). You know, you don't have to be a direct tank, but rather a defensively focused rebuild.
    5. Sean Peyton was the Dallas QB coach, but they don't have positional coaches in Madden 2004. 49ers legendary FB tom Rathman, for example, was a fantastic Running Backs coach that "doesn't get a job" in the game as well because of this.

Honestly, this coaching staff might be really good at a true rebuild rather than being tank commanders. For a user controlled team, I like the idea of this staff. You have a lot of solid defensive talent and two talented Defensively minded coaches (Johnson and Capers) to lead them. Let Peyton apply his offense and just draft BPA with a 3-5 year plan.

The "tank" aspect, in my opinion (1) should have happened in year 2, not year 5, and (2) should really consist of that staff identifying who their "dawgs" are and trading off bad contracts – even for low round selections just to free up cap space – so that you can develop the right young talent.

  2. It's amazing to have a channel like this. You craft your teams the way a true GM would, understanding the psychology and organizational dynamics of moves in the short term and long term, when to tank for that talent and when to grab the final pieces for that championship push, all while managing that sneaky salary cap–with a smooth narration like a cold glass of coke no ice. It makes for great background music while I drink my coffee (dark, bitter and getting colder, like my Owner boss's soul) and manage my current GM gig in FOF8.

  3. Scrolling through Madden 2002 and I was reminded of a sad story you might want to know about and a player you might want to look in on: Darrell Russell. 97ovr DT for the Raiders 6'5" 320lbs. In Madden 2004 (2003 season) he should be on the Redskins according to his Wikipedia.

Quote: Darrell Anthony Russell, Jr. (May 27, 1976 – December 15, 2005) was an American football defensive tackle for the Oakland Raiders and Washington Redskins of the National Football League (NFL). He died in a car crash near Los Angeles after being indefinitely banned from the NFL for repeated violations of the league's substance abuse policy.

  4. Trick I learned if you play with the team you have in franchise mode and you win a lot and then simulate in madden 2004 your team will win a lot but if you don’t play with them at all they’ll lose more than they win in simulation
