A lesson for the world: This is how China builds a subway line nowadays!

A few days ago Line 14 of Shenzhen Metro system just opened, and with it, several stations of course! I came to ride it and visit the most impressive subway station yet of the whole system, this is Gangxia North station in Futian District! It is just a masterpiece!

  1. I am a Chinese who lives in London, and I just wanna mention that do not deify the "huge" "spectacular" achievement China has made during its rising. London Underground has just witnessed its 160th anniversary recently. Dating back to 160 years ago when the UK opened the first metro line in the world, China was poor and shabby. Western metropolises like New York and London at that time were viewed as equally astonishing and spectacular as modern China today.

The auto-driving train reminded me of the London DLR, which is auto-driving as well, but it was opened in the 80s! That was many decades ago before any auto-driving lines in China.

Don't forget the ageing of infrastructures. Though London underground is shabby today, it was spectacular in the past. And the same for China's infrastructure. What looks advanced today in China will become shabby decades in the future. At that time, outdated infrastructures in western countries will be upgraded and rebuilt, and there may be other countries, probably Africa, rising and looking great.

At the end of the day, these apotheoses of the achievements of China and comparisons to other countries are meaningless. Because other countries like US and UK had managed to do spectacular things under the same (or even more) difficulties far before China. And what matters is not whose infrastructure is newer, but who made unprecedented innovations and remarkable advances first. China has just executed these advances after US, UK and EU, but the ideology of true innovations remains in the west.

  3. When it's a $10 toy on amazon it's always a made in china joke. When it's my Thule running stroller, PS5 cotnroller, DJI drones no one says anything where it's made from. they make up 60% of my TAXA Cricket "Made in USA"…it was made in Japan, taiwan, S Korea,China and is now made in Thailand (bad quality 1st, 20 yrs later PS5 quality), it will never be made in USA anymore because we can't even fix a pothole. 🙂 All rich country turns into service economy find the next slave country to make stuff. 🙂 Econ 101!

  4. The end of the train where you were standing and saying there is no driver is the rear end. The front end is the other end which may have a driver there. The train is not traveling the direction where you were standing.

  5. Can't stand people like you, who think just because they're making a video in a public area, that you are privileged above the needs of other people. In the future if somebody walks between you and your cameraman, don't swear and curse, just suck it up. Aside from that, thanks for the video.

  7. looks amazing! our subway system works well so i would take democracy and enviromental consideration and an old subway system over the chinese way. However, undeniably pretty and futuristic!

  8. Why have so many rich and powerful Chinese emigrated or are planning to emigrate abroad? How many foreigners, including those who are making money in China, are willing to become Chinese citizens? Would you like to become a Chinese citizen? Shame on propaganda.

  9. Congratulations to the Chinese people and the CCP, who have taken China from an agrarian, third world like country, and turned it into a modern superpower in just 40 years time. No other form of government could have achieved this miracle. This makes the subway system in my city of Toronto, Canada look like an archaic piece of junk in comparison. Keep up the miraculous work!
