What happened to Ashleigh’s Love Actually reaction video? I can’t find it on her channel anymore
1:32 SCROOGE MULTIVERSE – I enjoy this classic story so much, that I watch at least five versions of Charles Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol' every year. My fave three Scrooge portrayals are…The musical 'Scrooge' (1971) starring Albert Finney as Scrooge. My next fave Scrooge is portrayed by Patrick Stewart, and the third fave portrayal of Scrooge is by Alistair Simm.
The man who plays Cratchet was in Titanic… he was Cal's security dude… I knew he looked familiar. I had to look it up!
This is my favorite versiob of A Christmas Carol. I saw it on TV on Christmas Eve in 85 or 86, at my grand parents place, and make sure to watch it every time it's on TV.
The Alastair Sim version is still considered the OG against which the others are all compared, but this is my favorite. Well, this and Scrooged. And Blackadder's Christmas Carol.
watched this just the other day, mostly because i couldn't imagine George C Scott in the role. wasn't bad but the Alistair Sim version is about 1000 times better.
What if the ghost showed him going in to debt from giving all his money away?
This is my personal favorite adaptation
For me, its George C. Scott and Bill Murray, my two favorite Scrooges.
IM NOT TINY!!! (It's shrinkage!!!!)
14:54— CHRISTMAS PRESENT Edward Woodward portrays the ghost of Christmas present. He also played the neighborhood watch coordinator in Hot Fuzz, the policeman in The Wicker Man, and Robert McCall in the eighties TV spy drama The Equalizer.
This was filmed in the next town west of me, local atrocity in November since the Scrooge headstone was recently vandalized that was used in the film. It had layed for 40 years and the incident was featured in local news. 😢
This is always such a fun movie (movies) to watch. And yes – there were some pretty fraught moments in this!
My favorite of this story is 'Scrooge' with Albert Finney. It's a musical, and it's just…delightful.
The three ghosts represent the mythology of the time, in Europe, surrounding Christmas. The Ghost of the Past is like a Faerie or a sprite, one of the primordial spirits of the Earth made of light and fire, thus her being extinguished like a candle. Not to mention, this is symbolic of the old myths and legends washing away in European society. The Ghost of the Present is Father Christmas, starting the season as a young man, fresh and new, happy and full of life, but as Christmas goes on and we pass the day and head towards January, it seems to die quickly, doesn't it? All that festive spirit gets washed away, and therefore the Ghost of the Present grows old and dies very quickly. The imagery of artists at the time who depicted the Ghost of the Present in books and publications very-much went on to inspire the modern look of Father Christmas and Santa Claus. The Ghost of the Future is still recognizable to us, even today as the Grim Reaper, death itself, as death was coming for Scrooge and he greatly feared dying alone with nothing. Death is that part of the Holidays that we tend to forget about, but it lingers and looms over us at all times, reminding us of how special and temporary we all are, and why celebration and tradition helps to honor that.
Most say this is the best version of the tale (after The Muppets version).
I think his sister died giving birth to his nephew, just like his mother died giving birth to him. He treated Fred like his own father treated him.
🎅 This is a good meat & potatoes version. The very first version was a silent from the dawn of the movie industry (1901) that believe it or not, has somehow survived and is available for viewing here on YouTube. Since then, there have been something like 30 major remakes for both the big screen and television, in both live action and animated form. 😉👍
My favorite Christmas Carol movies are the musical versions.
The best Christmas Carol version has to be Scrooged with Bill Murry, funny as hell
You should watch musical Scrooge with Alec finney
I've always loved the various ways various adaptations have played the Ghost of Christmas Present's caring, compassionate nature, be it Jerry Nelson's extremely warm-hearted teacher-by-way-of-Santa Ghost, to Edward Woodward here, who is so moved by the plight of the Cratchits and other poor folk that Scrooge's earlier callousness has him utterly disgusted with him by the end, to Carol Kane in Scrooged , who is just Glinda if she took some damn initiative and kicked the Wizard's ass
Love it! I undertook an effort to read the original years ago and watch every interpretation I could. So much fun in the re-telling of the story! Made better by watching you're experience too.
Please Ashleigh watch "Scrooge " I think you will enjoy it much more, it's a musical
Fav
Yea Allister Sim is so very good. This is close as is A Christmas Carol with Patrick Stewart
The 1970 version with Albert Finney is the bast.
Marley's ghost has his mouth tied up , done by coroner to present a more pleasant visual to mourners, rather than a gaping mouth
This is my favorite adaption. It comes closest to the book in my humble opinion, which is not humble, but always mine. I actually arranged to be off work in order to see this on TV. I told my manager I had a date. I love George C Scott, David Warner, Edward Woodward, and Suanna York. Those of us older folks remember these people. I am so thrilled you chose to watch it!
Edward Woodward a prolific actor as Christmas Present ,played the original Equalizer in a TV series 85-89, also if you have seen hot fuzz( Simon Pegg) he plays the neighborhood watch guy.
Christmas Past ghost he's only 5'9"..so they must have used some camera work and big boots
You have also seen Scrooged which was a great creative modern take on A Christmas Carol
the story under discussion was "Robinson Crusoe"……Mr Scott played Scrooge as a complete sociopath, with a HUGE amount of greed, and the personality of a jellyfish……the Victorian era workhouses and poorhouses were squalid and disease riddled horror houses who systematically killed off the poor, disabled, and unemployed as quickly as they could
George did such a good job playing Scrooge, also liked him in Stephen King's Firestarter which came out the same year cough cough please react to it. David from Tron and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II was a delight as well as Alfred from the Batman films. Nice reaction Ashleigh, you did see Scrooged where Bill Murray was a modern Scrooge. Bob's wife is Susannah York aka Superman's mother from the 1978 film with Marlon Brando and Christopher Reeve.
The story he was referencing in his school years was “Robinson Crusoe”. A popular book at the time about a shipwrecked sailor, but also referencing how alone he actually was as a boy, living only through books.
Such a great adaption. My favorite is with Sir Patrick Stewart playing Scrooge, followed by the muppets and Mickeys Christmas Carol and this one ❤
The man who plays Marley in this version of a Christmas Carol is Frank Finlay. He is by far my favorite Marley. I haven’t seen all the adaptations but he’s my favorite Marley. I love that Finlay captures how Marley’s ghost is the epitome of despair.. He also plays the main character’s father in The Pianist.
This is one of the best, but I still prefer the Alister Sim "Scrooge" 1951.
The Ghost of Christmas Present was played by Edward Woodward, most famous for "The Equalizer" 1985-1989.
"You still think it was something you ate? What'd you eat, shrooms?" 😂 You had me rotfl!
Great choice, this is my fave Christmas Carol adaptation.
You still think it’s something you ate? What did you eat, ‘shrooms? 🤣😆🤣
If you've not seen it, I highly recommend "The Man Who Invented Chirstmas". It's all about how Dickens came to write this classic story.
While this one is pretty good for it's time, the one I tend to watch every year just before C'Mas is the – Patrick Stewart version. I feel it's done so much better and there's just something about PS that grabs you in how well he plays the sour side of Scrooge, but also after he makes his turn around into a more jovial and caring Man! Ashley you really need to watch it. 😊
PS- You should watch- The Nativity Story movie. It has a young Oscar Isaac and James Earl Jones in it. Really well done, worth the watch. 🙏😊
As per usual: the only thing scarier than a dark ghost of decay and death is having George C. Scott glower at you for two hours on screen. Heh 🙂
26:19 I have never laughed so hard
Mr Magoo! My favorite.
A couple other versions you should check out are Mickey's a Christmas Carol (my favorite). The version with Jim Carrey (also animated and from Disney). And if you haven't seen it…Scrooged with Bill Murray is a different, more modern adaptation of this story.
I am now forced to admit that I may well be a card carrrying curmudgeon – hence this comment. Of all the numerous versions, obviously the Muppet Christmas Carol is the best. But of all the versions that exist, there are some true gems. I'd probably go for the 1951 Alistair Sim version as my preferred, with Patrick Stewart's not far behind Guilty pleasure version would be Scrooged naturally. And well, the 2009 Jim Carry version wasn't half bad either TBH. And then there's this version. Welp, ya can't win em all I guess.
My absolute favorite version, I make sure I watch this every Christmas season.
Hello Ashleigh Burton, should you wish for a change pace. Then see the unadulterated version from 1962: Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol
