  1. My grandmother was born 1903 and I can’t recall her ever using any perfumes. She did use Oil of Olay too, it had found its way even to the far north of Sweden. My perfume memories comes from, or with, my granddad. Granny used the bathroom in the back of their house as her ”beauty parlour” and granddad used the little toilet as barber shop. He always used a brand called Tabac, don’t know if that’s a swedish only brand, as his after shave and the scent remained many years after he passed. He’d sometimes let me help him with the after shave. He poured a little in my hands, told me to rub them together and then he’d put his big hands over mine and helped me pat it on his cheeks and chin. Then he’d ask: ”do I smell nice now”, and when I said ”yes” he’d say ”hah, of course I do, you did it”. A very fond memory.

  2. My Gram wore only powder, on special occasions, and added pink lipstick when she went to the salon for her once a year perm. She lived with us when I was growing up, and I got her dresser with the big mirror when she passed; inside the skinny top drawer was a hand-written note, a piece of a blue velvet flounce, and a red patterned silk handkerchief pinned together– they were noted to be from the dress & the pocket handkerchief her own granny and grandpa wore when they married in a small village outside of Alsace. She might not appreciate my keeping that red hankie wrapped around a Tarot deck, LOL. My mom used to wear colors/style like this, and at 92 she still does a full face every day, a little more updated now. This is a gorgeous look that I shall copy soon. Congrats on the book, Sophie!

  3. My great grandmother’s little home was soft and white with pretty white ceramic cats. But her bedroom? A lovely pink with a great brass bed.

My grandmother always has new skincare scattered about in the bathroom 😆

  4. This is one of the sweetest videos I've ever seen ❤ The Yardley lavender range always reminds me of my gran and the very specific powdery smell of this wardrobe hanging freshener shaped like a Victorian high heeled boot!

  5. What a fabulous canvas you had to work on today. Sophie definitely didn't need any make., however your skill and magic touch transformed her into a goddess just stunning. Hope she gets to read her book on CBBS bedtime stories, her voice was enchanting. Thank you both for sharing xx

  6. My Grandma didn’t wear makeup unless she was going somewhere important, like Mass. She was born in Italy and was the most amazing, sweet person on the planet! She 19:39 also was a tremendous cook, made beautiful clothes and kept her home spotless. She was always smiling and had a great sense of humor. I miss her so much that I ache😭 I love you, Grandma, God Bless You🙏😘💕🥰💖😍

  7. My father put on Oil of Olay (USA) after shaving. Apart from being called Ulay, everything about the bottle is exactly the same and I remember the scent so clearly. Thank you for popping that into the video. It's a warm memory.

  8. I’m quite a bit older (64 soon) so my grandmother had things like pretty glass jars with hair bits, scented solid perfumes and beautiful little 1930’s powders and cases all mixed in with her gorgeous costume jewelry. I can still conjure up the soft, sweet powdery smell….

  9. I love your videos with Sophie, it's been too long! Her face is so beautiful and I love the little of what we've seen of your friendship. So lovely.
My grandmother used Pond's cold cream as well, and it's so evocative of her to me. The bathroom attached to her guestroom was bright, peppermint pink and had a bunch of beauty goodies in the cabineT over the sink: Coty Airspun loose powder, frosted pink and coral lipsticks from the 60s, a giant glass bottle of Chanel No5…. I wish I could remember everything in there. My cousin and I used to stand on the toilet so we could look through everything and try the lipsticks on. I miss my grandmother so much, this video made me tear up.

  11. My beloved Nana died a few years ago at age 99, I was her only granddaughter and we had a very special bond. She dyed her short hair bright red until her late eighties and never went a day without her Yardley face powder, frosted pink lipstick, pencilled in eyebrows and pearls. She used Oil of Olay and of course I had to as well. I miss her so much, thank you for the tribute to Grannies!

On my 16th birthday she bought me Charlie Blue fragrance and to this day I still love the scent ❤

  12. I never met either of my grandmothers. One died before I was born and the other was in a nursing home and I didn’t even know she was still alive until the day before she passed away and then my mum told me she had died the next day. I was 10 years old. I did enjoy hearing the stories and reading the comments about all your grannies 🤗

  13. I will always remember my grandma's make up, just a little bit of compact powder, carmine red lipstick and a black pencil to draw the brows. She never dyed her grey hair that was beautifully shinny white and wear it proudly. I remember her putting Nivea in her face every night before bed. She still is the most amazing woman I ever met and I've missed her every single day since she left

  14. I never saw my grandmother wearing make up, but the only thing she kept in her night table was a beautiful jar of some sort of cream, like withe glass with golden plastic cap. I told her that I liked it and she gave it to me. I still have it and always makes me remember her and the times we spent together. Those times were not many but I miss them so much.❤

  15. What a lovely, lovely look! Reminds me so much of when my mom used to get ready for an evening out— except for her, it was always the red lip. In fact, in my head, it was so firmly her color, that I didn't wear a red lip until I was probably 40. I didn't think it suited me because I'm such an introvert and she was the life of the party. But yes, always the red lip (usually Chanel or Dior and always with a matching lip liner); a pinky-peach blush (Estée Lauder), and usually a Maybelline eyeshadow and mascara (in the iconic pink and green tube!). Finishing touch was always Chanel No. 5 or Shalimar.

  16. This video warmed my heart. I've just recently lost my grandmother in law. I was very, close to her, caring for her for the last 7 years and sat reading to her when she passed. She wasn't huge on make-up but she took great pride in her appearance and was extremely particular about her clothes (she had the most beautiful aray of vibrant, colourful, silk scarfs)
I have 2 lovely make up memories with her though…
The first is when she went into hospital for heart sergery and she asked me to help pack her bag because she said it needed "a woman's touch" when my husband had offered to help. During the packing process she asked me to dig out a No7 tinted moisturizer and a lipstick so that she could be sure she didn't look "too pale and interesting" when her husband came to visit (side note: he is one of the cutest men on the planet and loved her so beautifully for their 68 year marriage)
The other memory that's very special to me is that when her Eyesight had gone, she allowed me to do her makeup for her birthday party. She was a very particular person and she was very clear about not wanting to look too made up, but she said she trusted me and left it in my "capable hands" to decide what to do 🥰 it was so lovely and she looked so radient at 92 years old, walking into her birthday party after fighting her way back from the brink of death twice already (she was made of strong stuff) she had the warmest smile and she really shone that day. I feel very privileged to have shared that connection with her.

  17. A really cool format, and I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked the excerpt read. And yes, I have memories of the grandmother's dressing table too, and the smell of powder and incredibly decorative powder cases that looked magical (I called them "artefacts"), and these weird mascaras that were sort of like little blocks of ink, and the brushes were on one side. I remember being very surprised as a five-year-old when they explained they were for eyelashes. Grandma also invented stories of them being brewed from bat wings😅And I vaguely remember the lipstick too, a pale blue case with a 60s kind of pink shade. A really nice reason to take a trip down memory lane 🙂
