  1. The city is on the up and up! Massive rennovations to downtown Syracuse, urban renewal projects, and unfortunately some gentrification are beginning to draw people to the area but there's still a lot of work to be done. I think like with all cities, reintroducing meaningful jobs is going to be the way forward. I hope policies can be implemented to make it a desirable location for business.

  2. Great story. One big reason for industry leaving was unions pricing themselves out of a job, not that unions are bad. They were good at the time because of past histories of employee abuse and safety. Now bottom line is where can we make it cheaper with labor costs and materials. Look in your closet and your home and try to find where your products are made, you might be surprised.

  4. This story is the same from Buffalo to Albany, plays like a broken record all along the I-90. All due to New York State high taxes, government regulations and lack of leadership to drive economic reinvestment.

  5. interesting how you still can't find a job here or go to a close city for one either this city is still nothing but hospital jobs which are hard to get into and service jobs which no sane person wants to do for more than a year. unless you wanna be in the medical field or poor don't move to this city and if you're still here just leave.

  6. If you are thinking of moving here, don’t. And hope you don’t own a Kia or Hyundai. They are stolen every night, doesn’t matter what year you have.
Syracuse tries to make downtown look high end, it’s full of different gangs. There are homeless people tweaking on drugs on every corner & off of every off-ramp. The highways are dangerous and poorly constructed. People can’t drive. The roads are never fixed. There’s killings every night. Even in the good neighborhoods there’s shit going on. A sexual assault ring was just busted in Baldwinsville. Do yourself a favor and DON’T move here.

  7. I was born at st joes in the 60s.
Grandad worked as a tool and die maker at carrier.
You wanna know what killed syracuse?
    The damn eighties.
I watched ALL of the factories leave or greatly reduce ppl in the eighties.
    Globalism. GATT, NAFTA WTO
lifting foreign labor for domestic company laws, lifting import tariffs, telling us we were shifting to a service economy. Thats what happened.
The bastiges gutted millions of jobs in hindreds of cities. All so they can make fortunes off currency and international trade.
    Evil evil ppl.
Im a fifth generation metal worker but im a artisan blacksmith. I come from five generations of machinists, tool and die makers. Boiler men.
greed killed my city, and many others.
    Globalist scum

  8. I worked in Syracuse. As with most of the manufacturing in our country all of the manufacturing was sent over seas. I worked at Carrier, it was bought by United Technologies, a French company that planned all along to send much of it over seas and did mass layoffs. Syracuse is a run down city, the main employers are the hospitals and Syracuse University. It's too expensive and run horribly, thus people leaving the State in the thousands. It's also a Sanctuary City, we've all seen what happens to these cities.

  9. Mayors started stealing money got caught. Millions for roads disappear, factories left. There is nothing but drug loads guns and kids killing kids. I live close by but don’t pass into the city anymore. Rents 1000.00 a month rats, roaches broken windows no one does shit except talk about fixing it. I worked at carrier Corp governor Cuomo told us he was spending 8.6 million to keep carrier Corp in Syracuse less than a year later carrier used that money to move to Mexico cheap labor, no issues with polluting water, ground. That’s why they moved to Mexico I lost my job at carrier engineering research, and development.
